sump baffle arrangement

Can someone show me a graphic of how to arrange the baffles in my sump if I not planning to have a fuge. The sump is a 29g AGA tank which is 30"L x 18.75"H x 17.75"D. I want to be able to incorporate an area were I can put a filter sponge pad.

Re: sump baffle arrangement

I've been to that sight a thousand times. All the sumps there have refugiums. My sump does not.

Re: sump baffle arrangement

Here is a site I found for simple directions on building a sump.

Not sure if this will be any help for you.

Re: sump baffle arrangement

Well I would incorporate the bubble trap partitions, and would make the first area of the buble trap large enough to hlold the "sponge Filter" Without knowing how many gallons will drain back into the sump during a power outage, and the size of the sponge and size of skimmer if there is one, it would be hard to draw a sketch....

I have a LifeReef overflow which is rated for 700 gph. I'm planning to have a siphon break in my return piping located about 1/2" below the water surface. Since the display tank is 120g (60"x18"x26") the amount that would drain back would be 60"x18"x0.5" =0.3125 cu. ft. or 2.34gal. The skimmer is a DIY'er that will not be mounted in the sump. Here a picture of the skimmer.

Re: sump baffle arrangement

Well I would keep the baffels for the bubble trap low enough so the water level of the sump wile running would be such as to allow for the 2.34 gallos, plus a little more, to include water in the piping and a fudge factor. The area after the bubble trap, where the return pump will be placed should large because this is where you will see the effects of evaporation, and te water level will drop. Allow enough space to allow for a days worth of evaporation without the pump being able to suck air...
