How many T-5 lights for a 65

Ive been doing some research on T-5 lighting. Since Im not going to be getting SPS for My 3 ft 65 I was wondering what amount of lamps would work. Plans are for Zoos, acan and alot of LPS with Frogspawn torchs and hammers as the mainstay. maybe a clam or 2 somewhere down the road but thats not written in stone.
I was looking at the TEK series of lights.

TIA

Min, the MIN-imum I'd use would be 4, but I'd personally do 6 or even 8. Fust as an FYI, Debbie at DIYReef has T-5's on sale IIRC...

I agree a minimum of 6 should give ya plenty of light and TEK is excellent quality.

Re: How many T-5 lights for a 65

If your tank is only 20" tall, 4 is plenty for all but the clams!

T5's kick the sh!+ out of VHO, so 4x39w over your tank would be just fine for LPS, zoos, and softies. If you want clams go to 6x39. If your tank is over 20" tall, then yes, definately go with 6x39, but be prepared to move all softies down towards the bottom and keep LPS low to mid.

I just put 4x54w over my 90g last week, and both of my BTA's (one green and one rose) have moved down. They were both mid level before, now they are still out and loving life, but just closer to the bottom of the tank. My LPS are loving it, and my softies are getting used to it.

Check with reefgeek.com, they have wonderful customer service (where I got mine from) and they ship to Canada according to their policies.

If you can do a retrofit, send an email to Greg at reefgeek, and ask him if you can upgrade to IceCap reflectors on the Tek retrofit kit. Its worth the extra couple bux to get the better ones.

Re: How many T-5 lights for a 65

you guys mention certain things shouldnt be so close, I moved some rocks around and my Xenia which looked great until i moved it has gotten progressively smaller. It is much closer to the surface now. I did rearange again and moved it towards the middle or the tank, do u think i melted it due to the metal halides?
