Re: clam ate my wrass

i just got home..ran to the tank to investigate the clam seems to be pulling from the sides of the shell leaving the inside of the shell exposed...i turn it updide down and i can see right through seems lifeless...uhhh doesnt look good...what could cause that...? what could the fish have done to the clam to make it die ..should i take the clam out before it pollutes the water or is there maybe a chance he is ok...

Re: clam ate my wrass

i started to relize the clam was starting to look like mush, soi picked him up to take it out of the tank and the clam slipped out the bottom....i guess he didnt make it-rats
when he grabbed the fish what would cause it to die -
ive been letting the shell air dry...can i put it back in the tank , will that hurt anything?

Re: clam ate my wrass

There was a thread awhile back about a clam death and they looked inside and there was a dead fish. Maybe the clam didnt mean to catch it and it couldnt digest it... May have been a defense to close. somebody else might know exactly what clams are able to eat.

No just make sure you remove any dead material that's left, no need to leave it rotting in the tank.

Re: clam ate my wrass

I think it'll depend on how you told the LFS clerk. If you said the Clam ate the fish then yeah, I can see the clerk not believing you as clams are filter feeders. If you said that your clam killed the wrasse by closing on the wrasse while it was probably picking at the mantel, then it would be a lot more believable.
