| Fire Coral | I have an external Iwaki pump that I am suspecting is causing my tank to run 10 degrees hotter than the house temp. How often do you clean your pump and how easy is it ?? I need to do this soon and don't know where to start. Thank you, Irene |

| Manta Ray | Re: How to Clean Return Pump (?) i clean mine once a month. i use vinegar. place tubeing "used for just this" and fill with vinegar. let it set for awhile then do the take apart tooth brush/ qtip cleaning. thats it. are there any extra restictions that might be makeing your pump work extra hard? are you sure its the pump adding the heat? |

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: How to Clean Return Pump (?) Do you have a pic Prow ? I saw it done that way in a thread at RC a while ago but now can't find it. What I do with my submersible is run it in vinegar and water solution for a few hours.

| Manta Ray | Re: How to Clean Return Pump (?) dont have a pic. would have to clean the pump to get one, sorry. basically with out getting to detailed, just run a closed loop. i use just the tubeing and let is soak. but others i know use a bucket and run a closed loop. with the vinegar in the bucket. you can even use the sink if its clean enough. o one thing about the heating issue. has this tank been going awhile. if so might need to change the plumbing. could have deposits decreasing the lumin in your tubing and or pipeing. |
