Re: UV Sterilizer vs Ozonizer

ozone is pretty complicated, and can be very dangerous to deal with. are you looking for better water clarity? or like, an immune booster... i don't think they exactly do the same things... tell us what you're trying to accomplish.

Re: UV Sterilizer vs Ozonizer

UV is easier, Ozone CAN BE VERY dangerous to you and your fish. It also requires close observation and special monitors to ensure its safe operation .... are you tyring to get better water clarity or kill parasitses?

Carbon and filtersocks Change the carbon every week.... make sure to presoak it in ro/di to help remove the po4. Also, a little goes a long way! I read that you only need to use 1 cup per 100 gal. I'll try to find the link...

Re: UV Sterilizer vs Ozonizer

Soak the carbon for a few hours or longer...

I found the link... CARBON part two

Quote:
Thiel’s current recommendation of 3 tablespoons per 50 gallons is probably all that is necessary to keep a reef tank free of color. Thiel also recommends using carbon for 12 hours a week and then removing it. This too is prudent advice. A healthy tank, particularly one with an adequate foam fractionator, should not need much more than this duration of carbon usage.

Also... CARBON part one

I found simular info somewhere......I agree not much is needed. I put my carbon and Phosban in a canister filter with filter floss.....this helps polish my water....

I keep mine running 24/7....does a good job of polishing and also adds to my flow in the tank.
