| Acropora ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? The time really doesn't matter much, I have noticed all my SPS's have a tendancy to really expand there feeders right after I clean the glass and feed the fish. It's almost like they can tell when there is food around and most will take advantage of it. Just my 2 cents

| Torch coral ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? My concern is that I just bought it about two weeks ago and I still have not seen the polyps yet. I do see what appears to be some feather dusters on there popping out and feeding, only a couple though. Sorry I sound so stupid about this. This is my first SPS. I thought the polyps have "thicker arms", lack of a better description, so that is why I think they are feather dusters.

| Acropora ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? Some SPS's you will rarley if ever see the polyps, some will be out and noticable all the time. What type of SPS did you get? Are they bleaching on you? Did they slime when they went in the tank? Most Acro's have very small polyps that do not expand every far at all and you really do not have to "feed" them. As long as you have suficiant light, suficiant flow, keeps your parms correct (CA, alk, ph, SG, etc) they should be fine.

| Torch coral ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? I think I got Acropora subulata. I did not get the name from the LFS. That is the closet one I could find that it looks like. Yes, a couple of branches are now bleached. I did not see it slime. It may have happened that night though. I haven't checked my parms in a couple days, but everything was good. I have it on my to do tonight.

| Acropora ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? Make sure you have a good flow around the corals, the tips will turn white as they grow. What type of lighting do you have and how far from the lights are they? Bleeching happens from stress on the coral.

| Torch coral ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? I have a Tunze Stream and various ph's moving water around. The Tunze is now on one end and the acro is on the other end and there is a ph on the back glass behind the acro (not pointing directly at it though) that is on a wave maker so it kind of gives a little turbulence once it kicks on and off. Plus my return is right above the acro. (again not pointing directly at it) My sig has my lighting and the acros are about 20" in all from the lights. That is the lights are 12" off the water and the acro is about 8" down in the tank. That is what I figured about the bleaching, going from LFS to my tank and then being moved around a couple times for a couple days to get it in the right spot. Probably a little stressed. But it has been in that spot for about a week and a half. Thanks for all the help so far.

| Acropora ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? I would acclimate it to your light... move it down in the lower part of the tank for a while and you may even have to partially shade it until the bleeching stops, then slowly bring it out of the shade and raise it in the tank until it is where you want it.....

| Torch coral ![]() | Re: When is the best time to feed my acro? I actually had some of the screen door material on there that just came off a couple days again. I started with three layers and then after a couple days went to two and so on. The bleaching happened during the removal process so it may have been to early to remove all of them. They were under 250's at the store and they had been there for a couple months the guy said. I know the 400's are more intense that is why I did the screens.
