Powder Blue Tang

<!--StartFragment --> Hi everybody!
We got ourselves a powder blue on friday.

well he is very healthy and in the QT tank which it 29gal. with a few peices
of live rock and sand.

i know they love to swim and there doesnt seem to be enough room in there
for him.

my question is, when would be the safest time to add him to the main tank??

thanks
shellie

Re: Powder Blue Tang

Are you keeping him in the QT for observation or preventative treatment ? In any case I would say a minimum of 4 weeks. How big is he ? He should be fine in the small confines for a short period of time.

Re: Powder Blue Tang

proper maintained water, I add fish directly. If you introduce healthy fish to a stable enviroment they will do well.

but ofcourse that is just one reefers opinion

Well how will you know if the fish is healthy ? Parasites can very easily be carried into the aquarium without any visual symptoms so I definitely recommend QT and preventative treatment !

I was keeping him in the QT tank intially for observation.
I dont really know much about preventative treatment, so any imput would help as far as
what to use and how.

I'd say he's a little over 4".

I took a peice of Live rock from the main tank and put it with him
in the QT tank, and he started nibbling on the rock. he appeared
to be a little bit 'calmer' after that.
I've been putting .5ml of Selcon in the tank twice a day, once in the am and once in the pm, I do not have garlic.

Re: Powder Blue Tang

How long was the PBT in the LFS and do they use copper in their fish only tanks ?

I don't know how much benefit you'll get by adding Selcon to the water...IMO I would just soak Nori in the Selcon and then feed him. If he appears to be healthy active and eating well I would keep him in the QT for 4 weeks just to be sure and then add him to the display.

Re: Powder Blue Tang

In that case then I would definitely keep him in Q for a minimum of 4 weeks !
