Problems w/clean up crew from Internet

Thought I would vent/warn people about what I got from Drs. Foster & Smith Live Aquaria this week. I placed an order for their “Detritus Attack Pack – Deluxe”. I even went smaller than my 125 gallon tank size recommendation (I ordered the 75 gallon size). My assumption was I would get a bunch of small critters to help keep things clean. The “small” part of my assumption was the incorrect part. While they don’t specifically state the size of the inverts you will get, I assumed…

What I got was two Fancy Tiger Striped stars that are at least 10” tip to tip. The 3 Tiger Tail Sea Cucumbers are 4”, 5” to 8” long. These guys are too big for my 125, let alone if I actually had a 75 to put them in. Is it me, or did they dump their big inverts that have not sold?

I called and complained, and they did give me a $20 credit on the $109 purchase, but that is not the point. I am now going to have to find a home for these guys. (Anyone in Minneapolis interested?)

Anyone else have this kind of experience with Drs. Foster & Smith Live Aquaria? Should I have known better than to order from them?

I have had nothing but great experiences with them. but that does seem like a large crew.

Dr fosters is always pretty good.. I would put them in the tank and see how they do. You may in the end be happy with how clean they keep the tank. Sounds liek you got your $s worth.. Most of those will most likely hide and you wont see them. If you dont want them you could always turn them into a petstore close to you for credit.... Dr fosters has always been one of my favorite.

Thanks for the info. Interesting what you said about them hiding. Those Tiger Stripe stars, after bolting around for a few hours seemed to dissolve into my LR. Amazing how two stars that big could completely disappear into my rock...

Re: Problems w/clean up crew from Internet

I just remembered when I got my first clean up crew and I saw a brittle star on the site it looked so small and cute when I got it , it was the size of a dinner plate. I freaked,,, lol, I called some family members to come over and put it in the tank. It was so big and ugly. Im from Wisconsin and never saw them before. But clean up crew needs to be kinda big, I think you will be happy in the long run.

I agree that Foster's and Smith have always been great. They are my favorite online seller for supplies. I haven't purchased from Live Aquaria but if the customer service is the same I'd definitely use them. The striped stars are mostly nocturnal and IME have little impact on the tank. I enjoy doing a "Where's Waldo" with mine. I would agree to the wait and see approach. Do check into the tank requirements for the tiger tails.
