Re: Crabs Are Evil Society

Well, figured here was as likely a place to pose a crabs-in-sump question as anywhere else. After moving all my hermit crabs to the sump, I'm starting to wonder... Will the 20hr photo period affect them?

Re: Crabs Are Evil Society

I wouldn't think so. They are pretty hardy animals from what I know. I think they should be fine with the extra light. Particulalry if it is not intense light and if they have some rock or something to hide in or on.

Re: Crabs Are Evil Society

I was thinking just yesterday "crabs are evil!" I started out with no crabs and snails, turbos and narciscus (spelling) then I got hermits red and blue leg, later emeralds which I got for a little bubble algae. Now I've got fewer snails but more empty shells and I've seen the emeralds scratching oneverything BUT the bubble algae. I only had them three days and I'm starting to think about how I'm going to get rid of them!

Re: Crabs Are Evil Society

man reefracer, you should know better to get crabs on purpose. but to have pay to get crabs....................

sorry couldn't help it. seriously i kill all crabs i see. i even kill these guys which are supposed to be good for acros. these two,one male and one female came out of my birds nest. the big on is the female. she allows her self to get boxed in by the coral and then the little males come on by. still even though i know they are supposed to be good i still kill them. they are all killers and will kill eat anything at any given time.

Re: Crabs Are Evil Society

Hi
New to saltwater tanks, have been browsing the forums and was vastly entertained by the CAE posts.
I do have some questions though: I assume Crabs are Evil because they eat the inhabitants of (reef in particular?) tanks (OK that's not a question); and does LFS mean "live fish store"??
Another one: fish stores will buy/take tank citizens (the unwanted crabs in this case)? what about disease/contamination?
So if Crabs are Evil, then what are the most desirable tank cleaners?

nope, good geuss though. it means "local fish store"

hey thats two, hehehe. yup most stores will take them, but i enjoy killing them and feeding those tasty little treats to my fishes. for the disease thing, they are better off getting from someone than getting one that still has to travel across the globe before ending up in their tank. better bet getting it from a customer, plus the customer will come back. not all LFS see it that way, but most do.

lots of creature out there. the biggest part of the cleaning crews for us crabless kinda people are many various type snails. there are other things like some stars, serpants, sea hairs, cucumbers ect...but snails are the main thing. do research any inverts you get some ok with this or that others not. well i dont know if that was any help but crabs are never something you want to take home
