hey i want to start up a mantis shrimp club/society.

we could be allies.

we could be the Stomatopod Republic, divided into hammers and swords.

i need help on that though, im still kinda a RS minion

I just found a turbo shell just cruising along, and it sopped and little blue legs poked out...HE KILLED MY TURBOS...little blue legs...THEY ARE EVIL

are you sure it killed the snail? Did you see it kill the snail? Perhaps the snail had fallen and was unable to right itself at some point and died and little hermie came along and protected your system from ammonia by devouring the snail and then taking its shell. That could be a thought, unless of course you saw it stomping through the rock with knife and fork in hand, pummeling the poor defenseless stupid snail.....sorry you lost a snail....

Hermits are NOT evil!
Your Turbo could have been sick or dead. Had the hermit not eaten him the dead turbo could have polluted your tank. That hermit in the Turbo shell just may have saved your tank from crashing!?!

Besides that Turbo was knocking all your corals around anyway!
Big dumb clumsy snail.

thats the only turbo that has died out of 10 total in 3 months, since the start, all the others are fine...i see my 5 blue legs attacking each other...

Have you got some empty shells lying around for the hermits so that when they grow they can go cruising through the real estate market and find a new condo or hut?

To lose one snail in 10 months is actually good as far as I am concerned, I lost more than that in a week. I just don't think the hermit beat up the snail. I am not saying that they don't or won't if a snail is lying upside down and unable to right itself, then I agree whole heartedly that it will, but then it is doing it's job.

I also wonder exactly what the hermits are doing when it appears that they are attacking or fighting each other. I have watched mine extensively and sometimes it looks like they are having a meeting of some sort, some will crawl off and some will stay and then they go tumbling around and crawling all over each other and then part ways. Very odd.

They get plenty of food, they chow on the LR and then on zooplankton, and when my blenny gets seaweed, they eat left over pieces of that....Highly doubt they are starving.....I have heard many other times little hermits sometimes will kill other sessile inverts, also heard they are omnivores....The only crabs I have seen do an exceptional job and strictly herbivorous is the mexican red leg crabs...I just cant find them locally to me....i was very hesitant in adding the blue legs, after all, they dont move to fast, I can catch them when its gets really bad and turbos are only .99....im not complaining or anything....

I prefer to give the few I have left to a fellow reefer or the lfs.
One or two have moved to the fuge as well.
