Before adding this huge sump I couldn't get the nitrates below 20 in the reef. These tanks have been plumbed together into the sump now for about 2 months and my nitrates haven't been above 5 since. I also attribute that to doing water changes at least once a week. The huge sump makes water changes a piece of cake. Turn on one light switch for about 2 minutes, then turn it off. Turn another one on until the mixing barrel is empty, then turn it off. Turn on a 3rd switch to refill the mixing barrel, turn it off when the fresh water barrel is empty. Add 16 scoops of IO salt and I'm done.

That changes 42g of water.

Next up, constant water change controlled by my DIY controller.

Wow Terry, I missed all of this... Pictures??? Wow... You are a true addict, lol Like all of us here..

Vicki, the first page of my chronicle shows my sump system layout. The last pages show my new baby, a 450g monster.

Re: The 200+ Club

I have a new 300 gallon dt, a 90 gallon refugium, a 35(ish) refugium and a 30(ish) sump. Pics are up in my "Steph's long odyssey...". And it has been a long process - planning for months to get it just right - love all the build threads and pictures...
