Question Mirror back

Ok everyone, here is a question what do you think a mirror backing on the tank would look like?
I have read various threads on painting the back black wich from some of the pics that were posted look outstanding but i cant help but wonder if i want to install a mirror or paint black!
so, contemplate it for a moment then speak out and lets hear the opinions!

oh, forgot to mention I think I can get some thin plexi mirror wich I can glue to the back just thought it might be nice to see the wildlife when they are behind the rock!

Re: Mirror back

I had a tank with a mirror back. think it was bought that way in the mid
1980s. I think the dark color like black or a dark blue will show off the color of fish ect.

Re: Mirror back

Oceanic used to make mirror-back tanks years ago....I dunno about for salt but a friend of mine used to have a Malawi tank w/ a mirror back....it looked ok but I think it would be a bit goofy looking in a salt tank....Also, unless you somehow stick the background onto the tank(not just taping to corners) most of the mirror effect will be lost (i do maintenance on a 150 FW community tank w/ a blue mirror background and its hardly noticeable.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Mirror back

LOL I was thinking the same thing. I really don't want to see me in the tank!
Don't wanna see anything in the room like chairs and such in there either.
I painted my 75 gal blue. My 90 is painted black. I like the looks of the painted backgrounds.

Re: Mirror back

Also after a while the coraline will just cover the back of your tank and the mirror effect will be lost unless you plan on cleaning that surface as well.
