| Tunicate | Generator back ups..... Does anyone here use a generator back up? I have one, well had one for my 92 gallon..We experience power outages all the time here..Ive read so many posts over the years about tank loses due to power failures..Honda makes a pretty nice generator.....You put blood, sweat, tears, and tons of $$$$$$ in a tank and then a power failure..Man that sucks, I found out the hard way too..before I fixed my tank...I went a bought a generator..Who here uses generator back ups? It really gives me piece of mind, one other thing i like to use if need be are bubble boxes,,You buy them at Wal-Mart powered on two D cell batteries...I use them fishing to keep shirmp alive, or minnows..These are very handy in a tight spot...Transport, smaller tanks, etc etc..Maybe Im just too protective.......lol..Would like to know if anyone else do these things or am I over reacting with the bubble box..You can never be too prepared can you? |

| Tunicate | Re: Generator back ups..... We have one, bought it after losing power for 3 days during an ice storm. We lost everything in the upstairs tank and almost evrything in the downsairs tank. It sucked, some of the fish had been with me for 6 years. So now we have a 5500w generator from lowes just in case. As you said, blood, sweat, tears and lots of $$! Something else to consider, the loss of livestock may or may not be covered by homeowners/renters insurance. So, $750.00 for one doesn't sound so bad. If you're considering a generator, check out the buyers guide on Lowes webpage. 5500w sounds like alot of power, in reality though it will run the bare essentials. |

also anyone have an inverter to work with a car battery? where did you get it? i have an optima in my car, and god, if that thing can run a 3000w stereo/video system for like 12 hours with no problem, and then still start the car, it should be good to run a few things on the tank for a few days.
