| Midas Blenny | Question needs answering I've got a question. I have a 75 gallon tank with approx 85 to 90 pounds of live rock with a three inch substrate. two 250 metal halides with actinic and moon lighting. I keep the following fish, animals and corals: 1 sailfin 1 yellow tang 1 maroon clown with host Condalactus (wierd) but he loves it. 5 green chromis 1 coral beauty 1 pink spotted goby with pistol shrimp 1 banded coral shrimp 1 skunk cleaner several turbo and blue leg hermits star polyp button polyp devils finger leather mushroom (unknown) came with rock and has grown much since. plate coral xenia My question is, would I be OK if I got rid of my sump and bought a good hang on protein skimmer, with 18 gallon water changes every 3 weeks. would that be OK. My problem is that I built my own stand and i dont have any room for the sump. Right now its just sitting beside the tank and all the equipment is an eyesore. Im in the military so its not like I could just cut a hole in the wall and run pipes. Anyway, with that fish load, the lighting, 3 inch sand bed and live rock. I want the minimum, at least for now, until I leave the service and build my dream tank:thumbup: Any advise from you guys/gals would be appreciated. Thanks. By the way I tried to go with the Berlin method.

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Question needs answering I have a 75 gal. no sump....I have a HOB Protein skimmer and a HOB Refugium, they seem to work well for me. Somebody will chime in with other idea's.

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: Question needs answering Yes you can but in my opinion you will need to reduce your bio-load. You have a heavy to very heavy bio-load depending on how large these fish are for a 75 gallon tank in IMO you will need an oversized skimmer to maintain good water quality and the options for HOT skimmers are few. The Aqua C Remora is excellent as well as the Aqua Medic Turbo-flotor and Deltec also has one but I don't know if these skimmers will do the job.

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Question needs answering With your fish load, I would be reluctant to reduce the water volume. But if you need to get rid of it, keep an eye on water quality and be prepared to increase the frequency of your water changes if needed.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Question needs answering Thanks everyone, I just purchased the Aqua C Remora hang on protein skimmer, for $160.00 so I hope it works. Now to tell the wife, I seem to get everything I need when I react first and then make up excuses later.
