Karma to you Reefreleif for such a generous offer!! ![]() What Billy means is... when you loose power there will be a 'back flow' of water so the sump should be large enough to hold it without overflowing. My sump rises by about 6-7" when the power is off. Drilling a small hole just under the water's surface of your return spout will help to break the back-siphon and will reduce the amount that falls back into your sump.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Alternating Flow in a 26 gal? I would go with a closed loop or the squid. Then you could really pushsome water, your coral will like that also. I made one and put a spray bar on it with holes at 90º from the water surface, some at 45º and some more straight down, this way I do have water comming from different directions. I used a mag5 for this. I like my tank free of equipment and the ph will generate heat, the one option is to use a timer like the coralife power strip, you can switch the ph every 15minutes, hopefully before they get a chance to heat up.

| Plate Coral | Re: Alternating Flow in a 26 gal? yea i understand that when the power goes out that water will fall into my sump...that is why im only filling it inbetween 20-25 gallons of the 30 gal tank...i'm not looking to puch that much water around im just looking to have some sort of random current...i has a conversation with billy last night and i'm going to use the wavemaker that ed is willing to jive me and i'm going to pick up 2 MP900 and have them alternate like every 20 seconds or so...along with that i will have my retun pump that will give me a constant 200gph... |

| Fish Addict ![]() | Re: Alternating Flow in a 26 gal? Yes, a wavemaker will make a difference in anysize tank. The random current concept is what is beneficial.
