Tang info

I am planning to purchase a purple tang from my LFS tommorrow and was wondering if this type of tang would be good in my reef tank.

Same Q.. what other fish do you have?

Do not add any fish after you add it. They can be very aggressive towards new commers.

Re: Tang info

A Purple Tang will increase your bio-load dramatically. I see you use a power filter and a canister filter, what are your nitrate levels ? AFA as your current fish list if they've been in your tank for a while I don't see a problem but you never know with Tangs, some are mild mannered others ferocious.

Re: Tang info

ammonia-0
nitrite-0
nitrate-0-10---never above
ph-8.3
temp 78-79

have LOTS of soft corals...He has been in there for two days now and has not messed with anything (he does like to eat the algae growing from the snail's back though). I feed him a piece of dried algae, emerald entree, and a little bit of spirulina brine. He is about 2 - 2 1/2'' long...any other suggestions on food

craig, yeah i meant partly the brand, i know some seaclones work well, but more that he needs a bigger one for that tank... isn't the common rule of thumb to always overskim a little? like if you have a 65 gallon tank, don't go for the skimmer rated for 65 gallons, but the next one up? also, if you have a sump, don't forget to include that water in the volume as well.

Re: Tang info

Used the 150 on my 80 gallon reef with 30 gallon refugium and it was plenty of volume, tank was pristine!

Re: Tang info

Thanks for the help Craig. I actually do have a 150...not a 100 like I thought. I'm happy with the skimmer too. My water is CRYSTAL clear 24/7. The tang is still doing great, not bothering anything, fish nor coral.
