Sea Levels Rose Two Feet This Summer in U.S. East

Story provided by Jeremy0322. Thanks!

Photo: Sea Levels Rose Two Feet This Summer in U.S. East
High tides lash a Destin, Florida, pavilion—usually on dry land—ahead of tropical storm Claudette on August 17, 2009.
Aside from such short-term events as storms, anomalous wind and ocean patterns caused a sustained and unexpected rise in sea levels on the U.S. East Coast through much of summer 2009, according to a September 2009 report.

Yeah Doni, hopefully hurricane season will not be bad until my wife finishes school and we can move out of Charleston! Another Hugo will really hurt this place~
I have seen the rise in water during high tide around the barrier islands. I will take my camera today and see if I catch it. It is pretty awesome to see the marshes flooded like this. Fishermen are really taking advantage of it also because the high waters are allowing the sea fish to swim in further hunting shrimp in the marshes.

Sorry to take so long on the pictures. I have been very busy. I forgot the camera that day but took these with my Blackberry while driving.
You can see the high tide up close to the houses in this one:

That's not even full high yet.
And the cell towers pylon. this will be gone at full tide. If you look at the concrete there is not growths on it yet from the saltwater. That is how new this high water is to the area:

And this one shows the road that will be under water by dead high:

Sorry for the poor quality. I will try and get better ones if anyone is interested.

Re: Sea Levels Rose Two Feet This Summer in U.S. East

edit - in your pictures it might be higher than normal because of the spring tides. we are feeling them down here too. It is a lunar event that has nothing to do with the season "spring" they will recede in a month, and then be a foot over the mean high tide mark on our coast from easternly blowing winds that will prevail until late winter/ early spring, when you will see a return to the mean high tide mark, and then in late spring early summer unusually low tides, and then normal again etc... The timing of the spring tides changes each year though, so that schedule is in constant flux.
