| Fuzzy Sticks ![]() | Whale Wars ![]() Captain Paul Watson founded his Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in 1977 because he believed his new organization had to go even further to eradicate whaling, poaching, shark finning and habitat destruction — and to uphold international conservation laws on the high seas — than the Greenpeace group he had co-founded. For several years, Watson's group of staff and volunteers have engaged in a campaign almost every winter to find and stop Japanese ships that hunt whales in the name of research, attempting to stop them by any non-violent means necessary. The eclectic group — labeled activists, heroes and/or eco-pirates — leave port in Melbourne, Australia for a two-month campaign that is dangerous, controversial and has garnered international media attention. Sea Shepherd's dedicated, international crew have spent their holiday the last several years and risked their lives at the bottom of the Earth to save whales. | Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Whale Wars Hey its nice to see other people into this. I caught the program 3 weeks ago on TV. i was shocked because i thought this wasnt happening anymore. Call me nieve but i thought the world was beyond whaleing. Im so glad that someone out there was able to find a way to put a dent into it and hopefully one day will be able to stop it all together. Also hats off to people like the Red Hot Chili Peppers that support organizations like this. See mom they dont just scream and slam on their insturments. They help save the world too. ![]()

| Fuzzy Sticks ![]() | Re: Whale Wars I found it pretty cool to see Paul Watson in a show. I remember marching on Washington back in 88 when I was first exposed to him. We were responsible for the Bumblebee tuna drama over dolphin safety and the red wolf program in Florida. The coolest part of that march and what followed was not back then though. It was two years ago when I spotted a Red Wolf crossing a back road here in SC. In 1988 there were non due to hunting and trapping. When I saw that wolf I felt God moved me here from NY just to show me the hard work we did back then paid off. Seeing Paul Watson still at it and publicly respected now is a huge accomplishment for all that marched that day.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Whale Wars I saw the show for the first time last night and enjoyed it. I was not aware that the Sea Shepherds were so aggressive in their tactics so maybe thats why I liked the show so much.

| Reef Lobster | Re: Whale Wars Agreed with the above posts... I had no clue this kind of thing was still going on. All descriptions of the show I've read claim that the show is controversial, but to me there's no controversy. We put a man on the moon, but you're telling me we still have to KILL whales to research them? ![]() |

| Harlequin Tuskfish | Re: Whale Wars No i think we need to give them cruise missles and m204 grenade launchers. The Japanese are terrorists on the water, just because they arent taking humans lives doesnt make it any different.

| Achilles Tang | Re: Whale Wars Why does killing humans equal jail but killing whales equal profit? It does not make sense to me. I mean Whales are dieing out and people are helping the die out? IMO they are the worst kind of people there is, but that is big biz, I guess. Kind of dumb, at least to me, Shaun

| Limpet | Re: Whale Wars Does the show say they are whaling in restricted waters?? If it did I missed that part. I agree that whales should not be hunted and killed but if they are in unprotected waters I'm not sure what grounds they have raiding the boats. If they are in protected waters then I say use missiles and create some man made reefs. |

| Achilles Tang | Re: Whale Wars NOOO Man made reef do some real harm. We need to tie the whole lot of them to a HUGE rocket and launch them into orbit, nare to return.

| Neon dottyback | Re: Whale Wars It's illegal to kill and catch whales for commercial purposes, but you can kill them for scientific research. So Japanese boats that claim to be doing this sort of research paint the word "RESEARCH" across their boat, in English. This is what the show is all about. Some members of the Sea Shepard could even face charges of piracy for boarding the Japanese boats.
