Georgia Aquarium Manta Ray Video

Georgia Aquarium Welcomes Manta Ray 'Nandi', First Manta Ray Ever Displayed At U.S. Aquarium:

Atlanta, Georgia -- The Georgia Aquarium announced today the addition of a manta ray to the 6.3 million gallon Ocean Voyager gallery, built by The Home Depot. The addition of the female manta ray, Nandi, makes Georgia Aquarium the only aquarium in the United States to ever house a manta ray and one of only four aquariums in the world to display this species. Nandi will join four whale sharks and thousands of other animals in the world’s largest aquarium exhibit.

Re: Georgia Aquarium Manta Ray Video

Wow, no replies.
I think that this is pretty cool. I am going to take a trip there this winter since I had to bail out on the MACNA XX The aquarium was one of my main reasons fro wanting to go on that trip anyhow.

Re: Georgia Aquarium Manta Ray Video

Yet ANOTHER thread I missed.. I must have been out of it yesterday!

Great link Frank! Hopefully I'll see Nandi in a little over a week.

I did get to see one last year at "Atlantis". It was AMAZING to see such a large animal glide through the water with little effort at all... WOW! Nature and all of her BEAUTY!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Georgia Aquarium Manta Ray Video

Since she's been rehabilitated, why isn't she released back into the wild instead of kept in captivity?

Re: Georgia Aquarium Manta Ray Video

Snelly, I just might take you up on a meet there. Let me know when you get a relative time frame.
Nikki, If I had a tank that big and the opportunity to keep a manta ray in it I would not let it go.

Re: Georgia Aquarium Manta Ray Video

I kept a bat ray for about a year. Fun animal but salt creep becomes an issue. To rid themselves of parasites, they slap their "wings" on the surface of the water and then the water dries leaving the salt. They are also quite expensive to feed.

Once it's wingspan hit 2 feet, I sold it to a public aquarium. The tank was only 850 gallons. While acclimating him in his new home (3000gallons), that was the first time I ever got to swim with sharks.

Believe it or not, I don't think so. Bob Fenner came by and saw it and took a lot of pictures. I'll ask him if he has any.

Nope, he didn't take any pics of it. The cantankerous old fart didn't take any pics of Snuggles either (my peacock mantis). LOL
