| Manta Ray | Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build Now all I need is... everything. About 1k to go including the filter. CO2 and lighting drive it up. But some little stuff for the stand like handles and stain add up along with misc. witch I don't quite know what will be yet but always gets spent weather thing x is more than anticipated or I need 3 test kits more than thought.

| Do I look as lost as I am ![]() | Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build I don't think "Necessary" but they are good lights none the less. Think about it... if they are great at growing corals then if you get the right "Temp/Spectrum" then they should also be great for a planted tank. At least in my strange/warped type of reasoning. Of course I don't HAVE or haven't had (at least in this sense) a planted FW but I have grown a LOT of plants in my day.

| Manta Ray | Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build Thought that might happen. FYI the Rena is the XP3 they are currently selling. In some pics I took the media out of the filters. The foam cartridge holds 4 foam pads and slides in the left. Water first flow it in the filter it is stood up on the top of the canister toward the left. On the right four divided baskets are staked- one is on the rim of the canister in the pic. ![]()

| Manta Ray | Loop I will install a loop behind the new tank ( when the time finally comes ). It will return water to the tank from one of two sources; -The tank. Water will be drawn out, run thought the CO2 reactor, then pumped back into the tank -Bucket. There will be a vinyl tube I can just drop in a bucket of RODI water ( will make up half the tank volume ) to add it to the tank VS. holding the bucket 5ft in the air wile I slowly pour it in as to not disturb the plants. There will be a T on the intake side of the pump. both sides of the T will have a ball valve. One side will have the vinyl tube, the other will go to the tank through the reactor. The rector will be over sized and over complex. I'm basing the design off one I saw in a Fish magazine. It was a piece of acrylic pipe filled with bio balls. Mine combines that with the cooling channels in plastics molds. The steel molds for plastic products have channels in the coolant is run through after the plastic is cast to cool it before the mold is opened. My brother engineers these molds so I know this. The more twists and turns in the channels the better as the coolant flows through in a turbulent fashion increasing heat absorption. My CO2 reactor will be built from small diamiter PVC pipe. I will use 1/2" as it it easy to find and has plenty of fittings available, 3/8 copper replacement has no such advantages. The pipe from the tank will be injected with co2 then divided up into 2-4 1/2" pipes with will turn and twist before rejoining into one pipe then going into the pump. I am hoping for 100% CO2 absorption. I know there are other reactor designs out there, I have seen them. This to me seems like the best one because it is totally contained behind the tank, maintenance free, and effective.

| Manta Ray | Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build For stocking I plan ( key word there; plan. Normally we define it as the course of action we foresee ourselves taking- with me; it changes; daily ) -2x cory Corydoras spp. -30+ shrimp. due to costs of cherry, crystal, and amino I will try glass first. Palaemonetes sp. -1x Kuhli loach. I know this dose not originate from South America but I already have him and he has sentimental value. Pangio Kuhlii. -2x center piece fish. Don't know what I will get for them yet. Something larger than the others. -30+ cardinal tetras
