Oh ok... that sounds MUCH better for the price then. I was thinking maybe a monthly expense! Whew!!!!

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

When I grow up I wanna try my hand at a "Planted FW System". I've had some of those "Miracle Bulbs" in the past and they grew well for a couple of months but I've always wanted something that looks like a forest or something. I've seen a couple with dark accents and they used white sand down the middle and it looks like a water fall.. under freaking WATER!! Can you make one of those for me Paul?

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

That is some hard stuff to accomplish Allen. I have seen planted tanks that make reefs look like kids play. One day I will get serious and try my hand at it.

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

Hopefully I'll inspire you guys to try.

Yes, I know how to make those water falls, I like them, just not in my tank.

As far as the CO2 system goes, I will not be buying from DIY reef; I just remembered I work in a full line pet store.

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

I got alot done with the stand today. Nothing to show for it, I have not even bought wood yet. But I engineered the frame, found the list of peices I need for that, then found the combination of lengths of 2x4 I need to buy for those pieces, then made a list a of what pieces I will get from what 2x4s and how long to cut each one. I also did that cut list for the Maple boards. That took awhile. Tomorrow I will do that for the hood maple. Then I will be ready to make a final shopping list for the wood. This is not the fist 3D model AND pen/paper work I have done. I have a whole hanging file on this stand so far. ALOT of pre-work.

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

Really the only lookers are the 3D ones and those are all rough. the only pretty ones I posted- or offered to e-mail to anyone ho wanted to see the 3d image of it. You must have Google SketchUp to view them though.

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

I've got Google Sketch up but can't you just "save" as JPG and post them? I did that with my tank build drawings of the Sump/Fuge. Can't remember the actual step by step process though...
