Wiring is done!
Need more black paint for the back but thats not a vital part.
Got the top pieces cut for the pipes, I'll need to get some knobs, they sit down below the to rim so they are hard to pick up.

I got the first coat of poly on.
not sure how It'll turn out, kinda made a few misteaks;
-forgot to dust it first
-used a cheap wal*mart brush
-Bad lighting

I work tomorrow so I cant do anything then ( unless its a slow day, then maybe after work ) but I'll let you know Sunday for sure.
I also for got to grab some of my mineral spirits when I left Steves last so the brush is in the garbage.

Better off tossing that brush and getting a good one. You can only do a job as good as the tools your working with.

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

This is my first time reading your build thread, and I have to say that you have some serious skills. The whole setup looks extremely clean. Keep up the great work.

When you get a chance, check out the link below. I have it saved under my favorites, and every so often, I go back and look through it. They are some of the most beautiful tanks (saltwater or freshwater) that I have ever seen.

Looking forward to seeing the progress!!!

There was an article (in FAMA maybe?) not long ago that did a long term study of painting tanks, and and it seems that paint cuts down on the amount of light inside a tank. You are better off using background of some sort; painting it turns out is not such a good idea.

I am btw following this thread too, i am hoping to do a FW planted tank later this year. Have to get my SW planted tank up and running first

I think its looking good Paul.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the compliment. That link was neat, I need to find out what plants he used.

I read a thread her about it awhile ago. Anything in contact with the glass will do that.

FishNerd;
First off I want to say that is a very nice setup.
That photo surprised me, that is a great scape you have there. Very close to the ones that are displayed on ADA.
As for the offer;
I'll tank the shrimp, Rummy nose Tetras, and plants so long as the price is right. I might want the rocks and wood, I'd have to see them in person though.

I am glad you liked it Frankie. The aquascaping in those tanks are truly amazing, IMO. Looking forward to seeing Paul's progress with his system.

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

I looked at the hood this morning. Poly could have been better, I don't think it could have been worse but better is possible. Im going to go paint the inside white and hopefully I will get some fine steel wool today. I'll buff it with that and see if its acceptable or if it needs a 3rd coat.

Re: PEMs Freshwater Planted 65G build

Pem thank you for the compliment! I took most of my inspiration from Takashi Amano's scapes. Waiting for the reponse from potential buyer... You get first pick if that falls through.

Exactly. We had a pretty good thread going about this last FALL because we went to a class about this at MACNA XX. As you said anything that is in contact WITH the glass will change the "physics" of the light and how it inter-acts with the glass. Paint, background or anything directly against the glass has the same effect. It's a fairly profound difference!!!

Things look GREAT!! You are da MAN!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

That thread is why I scraped the paint off my tank.
