Now I feel like an amateur...my co2 tank is wrapped around part of the stand with a peice of airline tubing to keep it from knocking over lol...guess I got some work to do.

Yup. If you don't have a shelf for your filter you will have even more work to do.

I stained a piece of scrap. In the basement under the florescent lights it is a horrible color. Under incandescent it might be good enough. I will have to look at in the living room under sunlight tomorrow.

Paul I've done the same thing... well sort of! Picked out a paint color... LOVED it here at work under THESE lights! Mixed up a quart (we have a Paint/Stain Dept) and took it home. Painted one section of a wall in the evening and LOVED it! Got up the next morning and with the Sunlight it looked HIDEOUS! Thank goodness I didn't do the whole room!

Definitely look at it in the room it will be in to make sure THAT light will make it look like what you're after!!

Its not soooo bad. But not good enough. I am going to buy some English chestnut stain and mix a bit of that with a bit of this to see if I can get a good color. If I do, I will then have to mix up a large batch for the whole project.

We do that all the time with customers. Mix a tad of this into a LOT of that and Whamo! Custom color we can NEVER replicate LOL!!

Nice build Paul! I dig the c02 rack

If you need any advice on the stain let me know. People pay me big money to help them with stuff like that.

Just a heads up, that veneer is going to suck up most colors causing them to look very dark. I would try some of the lighter colors first and work your way up from there. Another idea is to cut your color you like with "Natural" stain. It will lighten the color a bit. Remember that the color you see first when applied is the true color and a few minutes after it starts to change until dry and sealed with polyurethane.

I never thought about the veneer taking stain differently. When I get a color I like how do I counteract the difference? I don't want it to stick out as a different shade.

This one color, Its very rich ( I like ) but maybe to red. The red would contrast to the green plants nicely but all the other furniture is golden oak ( the entertainment cabinet is black, so this would make wood color #3 of the room, But I am not trying to match it ). I am planing to do a bigger test area with this stain to get a better idea.

Steve is out of town so I will not get to do that till next week as a ll the scrap wood and everything pertaining to the stand is there. I am so close to finishing it.

I will be ordering the ballast for the light tonight or tomorrow. The rest should come soon.
