My Planted Tank-Pics

Well as Im only in the planning stages of my reef still I though that I would contribute to the site by posting some pic of my rainbow planted tank. I think it sucks but it is what it is.

Hope you guys like it. Its pretty basic low tech. DIY CO2. 40w NO Flourescents. Mostly Anubias. I think Im getting an anubia flower though Ill post pics if it turns out to be what I think it is.

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

I am not happy with my planted tank either.
Get up to about 4WPG and a decent CO2 system. Also start on flourish ferts. Then you can start doing some impressive stuff in there.

Sas, at first glance I thought you said 'That sucks!'. Then I re-read it. lol

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

Im dedicating so much cash and time into planning my reef that I cant upgrade lighting and CO2 system right away. Started Flourish like 2 months ago but I can only get it to work 2 weeks on 2weeks off as I start getting an algae outbreak. Was doing 2.5ml twice a week. Its only a 29 gal tank. Any good pointers

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

Mines a 29g AGA too. I dose 3ml ( less than one teaspoon ) a week for months now. I too had the algae outbreak recently ( very contained though ) and adjusted CO2 up. But the new lights, might bring it back.

So cut to 1.5ml per week and up the CO2. See what that dose after a month.

I had the same thing happen, started the reef and let the ascetics of the FW go a little, and cut funding to it. I am now just bringing it around again and am balancing out the two.

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

some people have a knack for planted (not me lol) we have reduced everything to moss and shrimp, far less trouble, cichlids on the other hand are a breeze

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

I think the tank looks great. Its far superior to anything I could ever do.

Funny I had done saltwater for years - even had some corals too - and had some very good success and a beautiful tank. Im back to the freshwater now and I feel I have so much to learn.

Very cool! Your tank does not suck. It is so clean and cared for. That is what i look for in a nice tank.

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

They are males you can see the difference in person better than the pics, I used the flash and it robbed a lot of color. In the tank shot you can clearly tell the difference males have yellow/orange tails females mostly silver.

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

Yeah Ive had a variety of plants at one time or another, the ones I have now give me the look and maintenance factors that Im after. Been having a diatom problem out of the blue that is just finally clearing up. The fish arent as drab as the pics look the flash took a lot of vibrance off of the them

Re: My Planted Tank-Pics

I took your third picture and copied it. After doing a close up on the mouth i see it has mouth fungus. get some E.M. Erythromycin and treat the tank. API makes a good dose package. I recomend this because it is mild and won't kill off you bacteria bed.
