Re: Gauntlets Ready!

I agree with you John. The real trouble with feeding live is most people are not set up filtration wise for it. Thats what brings on disease most times in freshwater tanks. Poor water quality.

Re: Gauntlets Ready!

And while I'm at it here goes another aquarium nutrition myth down the drain!
The one where Brine Shrimp have no nutritional value. The shell of a Brine Shrimp (or any Arthropod for that matter)is made of a substance known as chitin.Chitin is not bone or anything even closely resembling it,but is actually a very complex protein.Fish which normally eat large amount of crustaceans possess chitinase enzymes in their digestive system and can break down and digest it as protein.Think about carbohydrates.Cellulose(wood) is a very complex carb that certain animals have evolved to utilize as food. The thought that nature wouldn't figure out a way to utilize all of the chitin it produces is ludicrous.

Re: Gauntlets Ready!

You're dead right on that score Frankie! That and unsuitable tankmates are the main causes of the stress that makes fish susceptible to whatever comes down the pike.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Gauntlets Ready!

If you wait too long the frag will get bigger and I'll have to charge you more!
A beer could definitely offset the price increase!

Re: Gauntlets Ready!

Why not section off a portion of the basement and make an in wall tank
and have 2 smaller tanks to raise platies as a sustainable breeding supply of
live food for the piranhas now that would be awsome. just an idea good luck.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

I'll make the whole damn world jealous if given the money to do so.

Re: Gauntlets Ready!

also alot of people buy feeder fish which are crammed like a subway car in hong kong which makes them almost gaurenteed to be rife with disease.

Re: Gauntlets Ready!

I didn't realize any states still allowed Piranhas?
I had 1 when I lived in Washington state, then a year into it they outlawed them. I was ok having mine, but I couldn't sell it, or trade it or give it away.
Never survived the move to California sadly.

Never tried feeding it vegetables though. Always wanted a gold one, but never found them.

Best of luck on these Paul.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
