mmmm, liveaquaria has them for sale. the silver arowanas (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum) are instock, they also have the Jardini Arowana (Scleropages jardini) but not in stock. here is a link on finding arowanas for sale, Find Arowana ? | Arowana On Sale | Buy Arowana | Books | Accessories | i linked the arowana list, it has four pages of them. i think the only kind that are illegal are the asian ones like kathy said, but thats only for importing. if they are already here you can still buy them

yeah kathy i did see that $100,000 one. i think whoever buys thats one is going to need a kiss, cause for that price he is getting screwed

i mean you could buy a plane and a boat and pay for a crew of divers, go with them and get one or five and still have money left over to buy a huge tank for it, wow 100,000 thats just crazy.

on the asian one, i have seen a couple on criags list, forgot the price though. they live around here. i would think though those that do have them will want ot hold on to them or ask something $100.000 for him. but if you do happen to find one on criags or ebay or whatever and they come from a hobbyist and live close to me, i can help with picking it up and making sure it looks healthy and gets shipped correctly(packed good/heater paks/extra water and stuff). offer is there if you find the need

I have an 12 inch arowana in a community tank. Arowana are mostly sold in small mom and pop LFS. They do not sell it at chain pet store.

Correct, no Asian arowanas S. formosus are allowed to be imported in the US and I believe you need paperwork to own them if you find an old specimen. In Canada you CAN import them but you need to purchase a captive bred specimen with an implanted transpoder. These will be at least second generation captive bred fish.

For an S. formosus you technically couldn't do that without going to jail. Captive bred individuals are the only ones allowed to be kept. Remember these guys are endangered because of habitat destruction AND the aquarium hobby.
