Teresa's Cichlid Tank

Well, here is a picture of the tank that Sas. is rushing to complete. Also pictures of the types of Cichlids that i am getting. Total # of fish will be around 45. They are better in large numbers.

Tropheus Moorii Bemba

Tropheus Moorii Kaiser

Tropheus sp Black Bulu Point

Re: Teresa's Cichlid Tank

can you tell us more about the tank...dimmensions, ligting, filtration, substrate choice and how about those rocks...were they locally collected?
...and more importantly...was any blood spilled during the set up of this tank?

That setup looks AWESOME! That must have taken some doing.

Are you guys, like, snowed in and totally cabin fevered?? How many tanks do you have now???

Re: Teresa's Cichlid Tank

They are less aggressive in a group not that they will fight because the 3 varieties of cichlids are Tropheus belonging to the same family and they are Tanganyikan cichlids.
Boozeman, you do not find these cichlids in aquarium shops, I think they are more of the high end type. As for specifics of the tank, pls. ask Sas, he will be able to tell you. I only supervise his work and make sure it is done.

Re: Teresa's Cichlid Tank

Thanks lynn, they are really cool and they have sooooo many varieties and in various colours. I have a feeling that these 2 tanks of cichlids are not the end. I might need more tanks to get more varieties.Poor Sas.

Re: Teresa's Cichlid Tank

Im game, bring it ON!

Boozie, tank is 60x18x18 with 30g sump, lighting 48'' aquaglo and powerglo. Filtration is 20 lbs of crushed coral in a basket for ph boost, and a very large 200gal fluidized bed reactor. Substrate is 110lbs of Homedepots best "target" playsand and 4hrs of rinsing. The rocks are from behind the Tweed Curtain in Oakbay (ritzy area lol) they are attached to plexi plates with pl2000 adhesive and silicon (prevents them going thru the glass

Re: Teresa's Cichlid Tank

Very nice Teresa ! That's going to look great with all those Cichlids in there, very natural looking too

When I went to Disney's Animal Kingdom they had an enormous tank with thousands of Cichlids and it was a site to behold !

Re: Teresa's Cichlid Tank

Cichlids are the more aggressive type. It varies widely from one species to another but watch out. Thats two fish per gallon. Filtration is also a concern, but it sounds like thats taken care of.

Thank you Robert. Steve found those nice rocks and glued them onto pieces of plexi glass and buried the glass into the sand. Cichlids like to dig so we want to make sure that they do not topple the rocks and break the tank. Even the rock that is on top of another is also glued down.
I cannot wait for my fish to arrive.
