He can make his own choice. 6700k lighting is very yellow, and won't show the colors of your plants.

Re: Taro 2ft planted tank

Whats the point in having plants if not enjoyed? Do a mix. Get the look and light they like. My bulbs are a 6700k and 18000k. Best of both worlds.

Re: Taro 2ft planted tank

hang on there... don't jump and buy expensive things.... 1st may i know how many gal or liter is your nano? u don't need to spend too much on light for nano. because guess you will be too busy on triming if you plant stem plants in nano. a low-tech nano tank is more fun, which do not need a strong light. if you are affortable. get some planted tank soil which will lower your PH wouldn't be great.

would like to know the size of your nano too ? x? x?

Excellant points Bully! too often we give advise based on our own projects without knowing what someone else has, also the low tech tanks have far fewer needs, I laugh when I see Takashi Amano's big floor tank, he probably has a lottery as to who gets to clean up for him lol, somehow i doubt he is in there wading around trimming plants

Re: Taro 2ft planted tank

Well I like to use LEDs for my tanks and so the WPG does not apply at all

I really like your shrimps. I used to have them in a 20G for over a year but so sad I put 2 cichlids in(I know this will come but just cannot resist the temptation) and you know it-the shrimps become meals.

Those are my early R&D phase. I placed those 5mm ones to test(literally, cover the whole top), check this comparison link. So sad I don't know how to take a proper pic so you cannot really see much out from it. Take note of post #20, you can compare <15W LED vs 72W fluorescent. in a 20G EXTRA Tall.
And also check how vivid the color could be under a mix of LED:
FW Planted Tank Under LED.
DIY LEDs are especially fun because you can experiment with many different colors and mix them in your final project. Fluorescent or MH really leave you no room for variesities because each of them is taking p too much space.

Still fighting to know how to take pic when blue or red light is on so I have no pics for SW application that are meaningful to look at.

Currently, I custom build lighting system with LEDs for those who want something stronger than the LED fixture sold commercially. Sometimes, I even use 10W per LED, so you don't need a lot of LEDs but you do need a lot of money-they are expensive. You can buy these RAW LED on ebay.
