Re: Who's Got Discus?

I tried. I was doing something right for a long time by accident.
Then I got crazy and cleaned the tank big time and messed up the ph.
I don't think I should do it again anytime soon.
I'm not sure the LFS will sell to me anymore.

Got any pics of yours? I could live vicariously through you.
There are some gorgeous specimens locally.

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Here you go.
I will add more pics, but I need to resize them.

They have recently started laying eggs, about a month ago.

Re: Who's Got Discus?

Those are beautiful. I had them for many years before I got into saltwater. Saltwater is much easier IME!

Re: Who's Got Discus?

Beautiful fish, love the colours. Thanks for sharing Johnos.
Are discus very difficult to take care of? Sas is building a new reef tank and I am thinking of using his old tank for Discus or Kois. Still thinking about it.

Re: Who's Got Discus?

discus will look at you and say FU...and roll... they like LOW pH....like 5.5, mulm everywhere, a few dither fish....and and a lot of room and privacy. they bred like crazy when i ignored the tank.....i was a bachelor then,,,,beer and women consumed most waking hours~

my reef tanks were at work,,and work only~

I was doing angelfish and rams before I got into marine tanks. Thank God I didn't get into Discus also.... I'd REALLY be broke.

Re: Who's Got Discus?

Here's what happened today... I HATE Discus.

I hate an loathe Discus.

I went to dose their tank with flourish. Only using HALF the recommended amount on bottle... I came back an hour or two later. It looks like there had bad chemical burns... all other fish. 100% OK.

DISCUS SUCK!!!

I transfered them all into my breeding tank... Thank god I had that.

Then I drained the 125 down to about 2 inches of water. Filled my XP3 with two chambers full of carbon. Refilled the tank and now it's back up and running, I will do a 50% water change tomorrow and more than likely on Sat or Sun I will put the discus back in their tank.

Unless I just drop them off in a jar at an orphanage... Grrrrrr these fish are more effort than a 1 Gal SW tank... I hate their guts.

Re: Who's Got Discus?

It's always sad when you loose fish due to using a product.

However, why are you dousing anything? Just like SW, I fell you do a lot better doing partial water changes, even for stupid discus. (just teasing about the stupid discus)

BTW, what type of Flourish were you using? Most of it seems geared to planted tanks.

Hopefully your fish will recover.

Re: Who's Got Discus?

It's a planted 125 Gal Discus tank... on a scale of 1-10 of difficulty... I would say its about a 9... reef tank is about 6... seahorses maybe 10, I've never tried them...
