Re: Who's Got Discus?

Just to play devils advocate.
I know PH is a HUGE item for discus keeping.

What else? Like I said and Wit seconded, they do great when you ignore them and your general FW tank goes bad. (low PH)

I do love the discus.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Yeah PH is important.
6 is not an easy number to keep.

Re: Who's Got Discus?

Well it's not THAT hard if you have an 80lb piece of driftwood in your tank and you also have some PeatMoss running through a filter somewhere.... lol don't ask... it's for breeding...

Re: Who's Got Discus?

Hmm, the peat moss is for softening the water it also absorbs nitrates.

Re: Who's Got Discus?

Discus like to have really soft water when breeding. When mine started to lay eggs the ph was at about 6.4 my carbonate hardness was 11

Re: Who's Got Discus?

Did some one say Discus?
Discus are easy to keep. I use to breed freshwater fish before i got into salt. The key to keeping discus is water changes, water changes, water changes. And keeping a steady PH. My good friend in NY is a discus breeder and i worked a lot with him. Here are some pictures. The last one is my discus nutty friend . great guy!
