Back from vacation, Fish wont eat

O.K. So I just got back from a vacation to find that both my Pufferfish and my Snowflake eel... Are not receptive to food... Normally they are the most aggressive fish in the tank as soon as krill hits the water. But now nothing. The eel is eating, but only scraps off the floor, not aggressively like he used to... But the puffer seems like hes almost blind. Just sits there, doesent even acknolege food rite in front of him.. Normally he damn near bites my fingers off trying to get food.... I need your help...What can I do

Re: Back from vacation, Fish wont eat

how long were you gone?
was anyone else feeding them while you were away?

i see some trites listed. a H2O change should be done, and it may perk them up.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

With the almost blind comment I am thinking this should be moved to the illness/disease forum so I am going to move it.
Post as many details as you can including pics.
Age of fish, what type of food, how often, absolutely anything can be relevant when dealing with a sick fish.

Re: Back from vacation, Fish wont eat

Assuming the ammonia and nitrite readings were performed using a test kit (rather than dip stick) then I'd make the observation that there should be no (zero) presence of nitrites.

Maybe the person caring for the fish has overfed them?

The stressor of nitrite can have different effects on different marine lifeforms. Fish sometimes tolerate a little for a short time, but most cannot handle any or only a small amount (under 0.5 ppm) a little bit for a long time.

Take a few ammonia and nitrite test kit readings throughout the day to confirm the numbers you posted.

Look in the system for any wastes, uneaten foods or detritus. Any other lifeform pass away during your absence (snails, crabs, live rock hitchhikers, etc.)? Remove these pollution sources.
