ahhh that sucks. to be honest, the treatment would have cost the same as about 5 nemos. for future toss a spoonge into the sump so you will have something for biofiltration for the next fish, i QT all new guys and treat preemptively with hyposalinity. as a destressor and parasite prevention.

(moved to fish disease & treatment)

Sorry for your loss Looks like brooklynella to me. The only medicine that kills it is formalin... hypo does not.

You should QT all new fish for at least 4 weeks. Now that your display has been infected, you should remove all fish and leave it fallow for 6-10 weeks.

Please read the "sticky" threads that Leebca has written:

Lots of reading but well worth the time to do so.

Re: Not Again! Please help with clown - Pic attached

I agree 100% on the QT. I figured I could get away w/o one since I only had 2 clowns and the goby. I was wrong, sigh.

This is what I think though. LiveAquaria originally sent me two clowns, both were supposed to be indo-pacific. I ordered a small and medium. However, the two clowns were very different in size, and although the were both ocellaris they looked very different in color. I think the smaller was actually tank raised.

The replacement ocellaris was huge, and acted and looked much like the one that died. Both fish refused to eat, while the smaller one was chowing within an hour or so of release. Both the deceased fish acted the same way - patchy, hung out at bottom, rapid breathing.

So, I think that LiveAquaria has an infected tank of indo ocellaris right now. The smaller ocellaris and the goby have always been great.

I would still call them and tell them. Even if you don't want a replacement fish they should be made aware of the issue. They are known to be very good with their qt and treatment of fish before they send them out so I am sure they would like the information to do their own investigating.
Sorry for your loss. It's so hard to lose one of these guys. On a more positive note I have had tank bred clowns go to anemones and wild clowns ignore them. I think it is more of an individual thing.

I did call them Lynn. They denied having any problem. Then later that night I sent an email with a picture of the diseased fish attached. They promptly responded that they agreed it looked like brooklynella, and credited me. Didn't sense much concern beyond that, but I was pleased they confirmed the diagnosis.

Well then you did what you could. I'm suprised they didn't show more concern but at least you got your money back. I know that doesn't make up for the lives of 2 fish but it is better than nothing.

To be honest, I didnt ask for my money back, they just did it. I am bummed they sent me sick fish, but I do feel that it is my responsibility to take care of that, and I couldn't.
