| Tunicate | Introduction + I think my fish is sick! Hi! I've been lurking for a couple weeks and thought I'd sign up and introduce myself. I just recently set up a 30g tank with a mated pair of clownfish, an anemone, a six line wrasse, a couple coco worms, and lots of live rock. I think my six line wrasse isn't feeling well--he's been very shy and hiding behind the rocks and has been spending most of his time suspended in a vertical position with his mouth open. Earlier today he had a couple clumps of white stuff stuck to where I imagine his butt would be--I'd guess this was poo but it was white. Sorry for using such technical terms. Anyway, I'm a bit worried about him, he doesn't look well. Some more tank details: I set the tank up a week ago and purchased the livestock and livesand/liverock from someone with a huge established reef tank (craigslist, his fish looked very healthy). One of the pieces of liverock had a kenya tree attached to it--it didn't survive the move and is slowly decaying. Water test results are fine. Any ideas? Help! Thanks!!! |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Introduction + I think my fish is sick! Welcome to RS! Step one. Slow way down. Your tank is not ready for any fish yet. You need to cycle the tank and then prepare for your livestock. You are definitely not ready for an anemone, They are very delicate creatured that need a lot of light and the stable parameters of a mature tank. As far as what is wrong with the six line it sounds like parasites. You can treat for them but you really should remove the fish and the anemone until your tank cycles.

| Tuxedo Urchin | Re: Introduction + I think my fish is sick! There are posts here which will give you some guidance on what Icstore has suggested: Starting Your First FO or FOWLR Marine System and The Mature Aquarium You may have been misled as to the amount of time and patience that is necessary for success in this hobby. It's unfortunate, but not too late to learn how to do it correctly. One way to proceed: return all marine livestock to the place you got it. Get a credit or if that isn't possible, then just give them the livestock. They will likely not survive in your aquarium so at least back to where they came from they may have a chance. Start over with the tank and setup you now have following the above linked recommendations. The 30 gallon marine aquarium is not going to support much in the way of marine fishes, but can be a very nice 'reef tank.' Don't put any fish in there that, when a couple of years older, will total more than about 4 inches. A single fish or two very small fishes would work well. Good luck!
