Anthias

The tips of my anthias dorsal fin and pelvic fin (yea I did some fish anatomy research) are turning black then fades to pink. Her body is pink. To tell you the truth it looks cool it looks like it's suppose to be like that. Like thats normal for her. But I didn't know for sure so I thought I'd ask. Does anyone have a clue of what it could be or if it's normal.

I'm not sure how an anthias is suppose to behave but mine loves to eat. Everytime I walk past the aquarium (which is a few 50 times a day lol) the anthias swims up to the top of the tank thinking it's feeding time. She swims often but sometimes you can see her laying on the rocks or sandbed. She always lays in the same place when she's on the sandbed and thats in the middle near the glass.

I'll be able to get some pics tomorrow.

Re: Anthias

Anthias eat 24/27
They really need to be fed several time per day. In my new tank I will have a school of them. I will feed 4 times per day.

Re: Anthias

I'll wait for the pics because there are so many different types of anthias and each has a different coloring. Some have differences between male and female. That said, I am not personally familiar with any that match what you describe. Sorry.

Re: Anthias

I feed her zooplankton and one cube of mysis mixed together twice a day (just one cube) then I feed them some flake food once a day.

Re: Anthias

I'm being a total blonde today....I knew I needed to put pics up of my anthias black fins and I just figured I needed to put it in my chronicles. LOL so I have the same pics in my chronicles too. Whatever.

So here's pinky almost a month ago

Pinky now.....This isn't the greatest picture because it makes her look worse than she really looks. She doesn't look as bad as she looks in this picture.

Re: Anthias

Could she be transforming into a male? Is she the only female in the tank?

Re: Anthias

Does she have a very tall dorsal fin. She kinda looks like a Male Lyre tail anthia.

Re: Anthias

I agree. Male Lyre Tail (squampapinnis) or squaw. Females definitely get more orange/yellow with blue lines above their eyes that make the eye look blue.

It is a beautiful fish, Ash, male or female. Yours looks good. It is a carnivore, so the mysis and brine should do it.

..and I have to disagree, that is a Pseudanthias hutomoi - Hutomo´s Basslet, it looks completly normal and very healthy
