Day 5
Opus has discovered other parts of the tank yet home is still the front corner.
He is also eating very well.

last night test results showed the first traces of ammonia.
NH3 = .01-.05
NO2 = .1-.5
NO3 = 10

So I did a 25% WC.
I had also done a 25% WC on Monday even though I had no ammonia reading. I figure rather than doing one 50% WC as regular maintenance I would do 2 x 25% WC.

I am pretty happy that the new LFS opened so close too.
They dont have any corals yet but they will have.

I'll get some pics of Opus too now that he is becoming more active.

Opus was hamming it up a bit last night.
It might have been the mysis shrimp I stopped and got on my way home yesterday.

I have been testing daily I just have not posted results everyday.
NH3 has remained 0 for the last 4 days since the 25% WC i did last Friday.
NO2 = .1 and NO3 = 5 have remained constant.

Opus is eating very well and is even coming up to meet me when I feed him.

One of the frequent complaints about QTs and unfortunately used as a (bad) reason for not doing one, is how ugly they look.

Your efforts and photos (thank you) show that the QT can be functional yet not ugly at all. Your QT meets all the requirements for being nonreactive to medications, yet 'homey' for its residents.

Great job!

WOW! Lee thank you so much for your kind words.
I hope that this thread will help answer the questions that other reefers who are wanting to set up a QT may have. I know I had a lot of questions and doubts as I was researching setting up this QT.

Tests last night were
NH3 = 0
NO2 = NA - out of
NO3 = 10

It had been 6 days since my last WC and ammonia is still 0. My bacteria is doing a good job.
Even though ammonia was 0 I still did a 25% WC last night.

The old Lady discovered Opus tonight.
Mimsy (you have to say her name with clenched teeth) is around 16-17 yo and she has become very mesmerized by Opus. She has never paid this much attention to the clowns in the nano. Then she started looking into the 55g to see what was in there. No fish there.

Opus was not thrilled by the attention at all!

But I am will be discouraging this activity in the future.
I shut the lights off in the QT.
If Mimsy keeps it up I will have to get the squirt gun out
