Dumb QT questions

We picked up a 9g odysea tank that will later serve as a "cool fuge" for Mike's 24g pod. But for now, it'll be MiniMoe's home until we figure out where he and Moe are going ultimately.

Q: does there HAVE to be LR in there if he's the ONLY inhabitant? It's one of those all in one jobbies, has a filter of sorts built in with a low-level light (PC), not putting any corals in there. If I run a bit of filter media and do water changes with water from teh 75, is that sufficient for ONE fish who's barely an inch long?

.... although I hope he won't be bored.

Re: Dumb QT questions

IMO, you don't need LR in this case. The nitrifying bacteria will colonize on all the surfaces of the tank. Not only that, WCs in 9G are very easily performed. My first QT tank was a 20G with a plastic rock that I got from Petco. For the mental well being of your little buddy, some kind of object for him to hide behind in times of stress would be a good idea.

Re: Dumb QT questions

yeah, he's stressed, but doing much better.

.... and my question may be moot. I just heard, "hmmm, I could put a couple of nice shrooms in there..."

We're at 4 again... the 75, Mike's original 14 is still up (minus MiniMoe) and he got himself a 24g. I led him (kicking and screaming, yeah...) into the 24 as I meant it to be an upgrade for the 14. Well he wants both. The 9 gallon is somewhere MiniMoe can grow some more for now. It's going to be the fuge for the 24 eventually.
