Question ICH on my Achilles

I am in the process of preparing to remove all of my fish from my 120 gal reef and treat them for ICH in a hospital tank. My hospital tank is into its second week cycling and I am ordering all of the necessary medicines, kits, supplies that I will need.

Because I was very limited to the size of hospital tank I could fit into my home, I chose a 30" long, 29 gallon and have added a large 32 gal Brute trash can as a temporary sump. The total water volume with the sump is approximately 55 gallons.

I have sold 5 of my fish in order to get down to only 8. These 8 fish are: 4" Achilles, 3.5" Copperband, 2 x 1" neon gobies, 1.5" citron goby, 1" damsel; giving me a total of 12" of fat fish.

I plan on fw dipping each one prior to placing them into the hospital tank and then treat with cupramine and later deworming them.

Any recommendations to this plan?

Re: ICH on my Achilles

Well, that is what I have been doing for years now and although I have never lost a fish to it, I am ready to rid my reef of it for good and begin using a QT for ALL new additions.

Re: ICH on my Achilles

It seems like a lot of work Doni. I was able to rid my system of ich with Metronidazole last spring with ease and have not had a relapse since. Using that and running my UV 24/7 I feel safe to say after 6 months that my tank is pretty clear of this parasite.

Re: ICH on my Achilles

Woody? would putting a uv on the qt quicken the process, and is there a definitive way to tell when its finished?

Re: ICH on my Achilles

Can't use an UV with most medications, but it would help reduce numbers. When my achilles has been spot free for 3-4 weeks, I will know they are gone!

Re: ICH on my Achilles

I would not recommend performing the dip.

It isn't the volume of water the fish need during the treatment, it is the size of space they need. In the case of the Tang, it will be sorely cramped in a QT less than a 29 alone. So, for the sake of this one fish, this is not a very good plan. Maybe you could put the Tang in the sump? or the other fish in the sump and the Tang, alone, in the 25.

I'm posting three more stickies regarding Marine Ich, Copper treatments, and hyposalinity treatments, today.
