10 gallon tank filter needed?

well I have my 90 gallon up and running and everything is going great. the more I read it seems the smaller the tank the harder it can be to maintain because the slightest change can cause serious issues.
so basically I picked up a bare 10 gallon that I would like to make into a FOWLR tank with a clown or two and maybe a chromis or two. but would I really need mechanical filtration for this small of a tank or would live rock be enough?
I basically want this tank up so I can fine tune my water changing and all that.

Solana Filtration Question

I have removed all of the bio-ball bags from the rear middle chamber of my Solana. I did this over the course of a few water changes. I only have 2 fish and a good amount of LR so I am not worried that removing them will remove a large percentage of my biological filtration.

I placed a chemi-pure elite bag flat on the bottom of the chamber, above the bottom plate of course. I placed a small bag of purigen on top of that. I then placed a piece of filter floss on top of that. On the top of the top plate I placed a piece of the blue bonded filter pad material that I got from Drs. Foster & Smith.

Is this the correct placement? The water flow seems slower but I am keeping an eye on it. Over the last couple of days the level in the center chamber is a little less than 1/4" high but is not increasing. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I also have a few pumps for general water movement.

Thanks!

Been crazy busy at work, never got to start a new tank thread or talk enough about what happened. Some of you might have seen a couple of my posts. Long story, short...the pretty nudibranch I had more than likely wiped out most of my tank...It was fine, eating sponge, but probably got caught in my koralia nano overnight?? I don't know, the next morning was a catastrophe...Half of my fish were able to be salvaged...talk about a tough decision...I had just recently got a 5.5g pico for my room and wanted to put some of them in there and yadda yadda...it is completely and utterly depressing to look at my old thread, so I'll start a new one...sigh...The good news is...miraculously my duncan, a couple of zoa polyps, and my balanophyllia returned after laying dormant...the balanophyllia is the remarkable thing...not a polyp to be seen...and now its slowly fighting back:

29 biocube fan suggestions

I bought a used 29 biocube and am getting ready to start it up. I have ordered the media basket, replaced both lights, knocked out the bottom in the first compartment, the second one did not have any. I have a mj1200 and a mj900 I can use for the return. The fans are a problem, pretty loud. I was going to go without but I do not think that would be a good idea. Any suggestions on what fans I should use to replace the stock ones.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know that either up to 30 or 40 would be consider a nano, but what is the minimium size of the nano, because after all besides nano we do have pico. So would anything under 10g be consider a pico and anything 11g to 30 or 40 is nano.

So what are your input on this.

heater for 6 gallon nano

Does anyone have a good suggestion for a heater for a six gallon nano tank? I had a little Hydor heater in there that was supposed to go under the sand. It heated the tank up too much, and I didn't like that you couldn't adjust the heater higher or lower. Also, the way they had it stored in the box made the heater curve up instead of lying flat so it poked out of the sand. Not very attractive. Anyhoo, what I really want is a small heater (preferably not made of glass) that has a temperature control on it. When I get the lights on the tank going, I want to see how much they heat up the water and be able to adjust the heater so it heats the water the same amount when the lights are off. This tank is still being set up. It is currently cycling so I won't have any livestock for a while yet. The heater and lights are the only things left to correct on the tank. I'd love any suggestions for a small heater that will hopefully be easy to hide behind rock work or perhaps in the filter assembly if it is small enough. Thanks!

Does anyone know if the Eshopps Overflow fits in a 14g Biocube?
I want to know if it fits in the middle chamber.

Or does anyone have one that they have more specific dimensions that listed on the website.

More specifically the 300 model?

Ok, so a while back I participated in the forums. Back in July. Its been a while since I've done anything fishy,But now that football is almost over for me I think I'm going to try saltwater. I'm a sophmore in Highschool by the way. I have a 20 gallon freshwater at the moment. I think I'm going to turn it into saltwater. I have a friend and I'm just going to give him my fishy's. A Few questions.

Heater-The heater I have says for saltwater and freshwater. So I'm going to use it.

Filter-As for the filter I would like it all to be HOB. So I was going to go with the aquaclear 50.

Protein skimmer-I was going to go with the AquaC Remora Pro Protein Skimmer

Lighting-This is were I don't know what to do. Corals I would like to have Zoas, Xenia, mushrooms, Soft corals. And I think thats it I don't know much about LPS. But to my understanding I shouldn't need MH for those corals I listed. If anyone could give me some advice that would be great.

I would go with a bigger tank but thats all my parents will let me have :(

Please any advice is well appreciated.

Aquaclear filter, Pico, PROBLEM!

So I got a 5.5g pico from a local reefer on the cheap...and luckily since my biocube crashed about a month ago...all had been well and then when I woke up (on my birthday) Thursday...about 5 minutes later the pump on the filter stopped...and I couldn't get it back on...Apparently the filter is a modded aquaclear AC70...So I had an AC50 laying around from an older saltwater setup and tried swapping the power/pump thing...that worked like a charm for about 24hrs and then that one stopped. I am at my wits end over here :(. I have a bubbler going on in the tank right now just to have some sort of aeration...I have taken everything apart and it all seems clean and fine...any ideas??
