ok this goes out to anyone that has a pistol shrimp. my pistol loves taking my frags away for his burrow. he killed some nice zoos that way. i found them but they never recovered. well today thank god i went down to check the tank and he had moved three of my acan frags into his burrow. well after having the clownfish attack me for about 5 min i was able to get the frags out and back in place. should i be giving the pistol some rubble for his tunnels? i put some rubble in their so at least maybe he'll use that first. does anyone elses pistol do this, or is mine just a weirdo?

Fire Goby and Pistol Shrimp?

I have 2 Fire gobies in my 125 gallon. If I put in a pistol shrimp, do you think that one of the gobies would pair up with it? I love watching the relationship between pistol shrimp and different gobies. If not I guess I will have to get that good looking yellow watchmen at the LFS. :square:

Also, do pistol shrimp ruin the tank with all their digging, or do you think that the movement of live rock is a small price to pay for this little characters?

I have a 125 gallon FOWLR tank that needs a cuc. Right now there are 2 brittle stars in the tank, a couple of blue-legged hermits and a long-spined sea urchin. That is what was in there when I bought it a month ago. What else would you recommend adding? As to fish there is a blue-angel, couple of firefish, some different damsels,(3-lined, Blue devils, yellow-tail), a coral beauty, and a false percula.

I eventually want to move to reef so lets make these reef-safe.:yummy:

Thanks!

HH urchins getting WAY too big. Help!

Ok so I have two urchins that hitchhiked their way into my 24g Nano. Originally they were the size of a pea, even a little smaller. Now they are bigger than a golf ball and they're knocking stuff over constantly! They are growing quite rapidly. What's the best way to remove them and what should I do with them? I have a 55g FOWLR also (has one urchin in it) and a 12g. Or would LFS take them? I've never seen urchins like this for sale.

Here's a pic of each one I took this morning. Keep in mind that yellow leather (although pouting) is quite large...to give you an idea of size.

Little Brown, Flat, Stupid, Annoying Worms!

So I imagine other people have had this problem before and I was looking for possible solutions. I have quite a few small, brown flatworms on my euphylia and I was wondering about possible removal options? I have iodine, so I can treat them with that, I was just wondering if there are any fish that eat them or other solutions (rather than trying to gently suck them off with a baster)

Marble Sea Star Damaged on Arrival

Looking for a little help from the experts as we are still newbies. We have a 35g Reef with 15g sump/refugium - born 1 month ago. It has 70# of figi live rock and a 4" sandbed (half livesand, half aragonite). We've been slowly adding some livestock the past week ... CUC, a few coral frags, and a Mandarin. We're testing the water every day and all the parameters look great. No ammonia or nitrite. Nitrates between 5-10ppm doing weekly 10% water changes.

We just received an order from liveaquaria.com this afternoon. The Marble Sea Star (about 3") arrived with the tip of one arm broken. I'd say 3/8" of one arm was just hanging on by a thread. Once we acclimated him and put him in the tank, he immediately moved toward the wall and started climbing the glass. As he did this, the broken piece fell off. The wound looks pretty "meaty". Strings of starfish innards hanging out.

So .... the question. Will this kind of injury heal itself? Is there anything we can do to assist in the healing process? Other than that, he seems happy. He's been moving around the glass eating algae all afternoon.

Thanks,
John and Jennie

I am taking a class right now called Invertebrate Zoology and we learned about these recently, they fascinate me for some reason, just pure awesome. I was wondering if they were possible to get in the trade, and if so if anyone had any links. When im done with school I would like to set a tank back up revolving around one of these, so i figured I would get the research started early haha
