Well, I was at the lfs one day recently, and *BAM* the impulse buy bug bit me right in the a--. It was a damsel fish, so I felt pretty safe as far as it's needs, because I've had them before. I don't exactly recall the name they gave me, but I looked it up and it appears to be a "king damselfish". I went here for identification:King Damselfish (http://www.saltcorner.com/sections/zoo/fish/damselfishes/chrysiptera/Crex.htm) It's a really pretty fish, especiall when viewed under metal halides. The info on the site tells me that it's not commonly seen in the trade, so should I consider myself lucky?

question about breeding clown fish

I have a question about breeding clownfish. I have a 60 gallon tank that just got finished cycleing about a week ago. I have 80 lbs of live sand and about 20 lbs of live rock. I am getting 40 more lbs of base rock within the next two weeks. My lighting system is a 260watt fixture with two of the blue bulbs and two normal ones. I plan on having a pretty calm tank like just gobies, clownfish, hermit crabs, snails, corals, and anenomies ( I know I probably spelled it wrong). But my question was if I have four clown fish ( two pairs) would they breed or would it be too much for the tank. I will have plenty of hiding spots and will try to keep them on opposite sides of the tank. I have a rock work idea that I think will keep them seperate. I was going to build both of the sides up and leave the middle more open and have more space. Feel free to ask if I left somthing out and thanks for all the help.

I have a river reef 48 tank and am just starting out. I had a clown fish who was very happy and he was in the tank for 2 weeks before I introduced another fish. I asked for advice and was told that the strawberry basslet (which I liked) (Dottyback?) would defend his area but they would be fine together.

Well he went in the tank and during the day they were fine together, each stuck to their own little area. When I came down in the morning, the clown had disappeared! It has gone completely!

The only thing I can think is he's been eaten!!!????

He's not in the rocks or got into the filter.

  Can anyone help me?

    Thanks!!!! :hug1:

Hey everyone. First off i know i should have a refractometer and i am working on that but for now I use a hydrometer. I was getting ready to do a water change the other day and couldnt find my hydrometer so I picked up another one. I am now in the middle of my water change and i found both hydrometers. My old one is pretty dirty... i never realized until now. I tested both hydrometers to compare and my old one is saying my specific gravity in my tank is 1.025 and my new one is saying that it is 1.032. My old one is more than likely the one that is wrong so the last time i didnt a water change i put in way to much salt. Now that im in the middle of my water change how slow do i need to bring it down. How much do i bring it down and how often.
Someone please help!

Pair of Percula Clownfish suddenly fighting

I have had pair of Percula Clownfish that I have raised together since they were babies (about two years now). Over the last few days the dominant fish (the female) has been violently attacking the male. Before the last few days, they have been quite content living together without issue.

History:

About three weeks ago, I moved the tank. I moved the fish by draining the water (after capturing the fish), removing the rocks from the tank, and refilling the tank with the rocks and new water. But the fish was fine until until a few days ago.

So what do you think? Is this typical mating behaviour? Or will the female eventually kill the male?

I need to do something as the male looks worn out.

Sad Day, Lost My Male Mandarin

After nearly 2 years my male mandarin has suddenly died. After a quick post mordem I am not sure what took him out. On the outside he appears fine save for a little raggedness to the tail fin. Plenty of muscle tone and great color. Water quality check shows normal parameters. All other fish in tank look good and corals look happy. I am affraid that I may have caused the death. In an effort to lower my livestock overcrowding concerns I went thru the process of removing some fish. This meant removing nearly 100lbs of rock and the putting it back in after I was able to catch the fish being removed. I wonder if either the stress of this got to him or maybe I accidentally crushed him with a chunk of rock causing internel injuries. Ok, here is another part to the story that really sucks. He was paired with a small female that I have had for about 6-7 months now. How hard is it going to be to get her to bond with another male?
