Okay, I bought a fully established system about 1 1/2 mths ago. The system had several corals and other inverts in it. No fish. I have yet to add any other livestock except for expanding the CUC. Anyhoo, I just moved my rocks around yesterday to change the rockwork, and something appeared out of the blue. It's not exactly a hitchhiker because it has apparently been in the tank since I got it, I just didn't know it. I'm assuming it was on the back of the rockwork where I could not see it. Yesterday, it floated to several pieces of rock before finally settling down on the same rock as my hammer coral.

Here is a brief description of the thing. It is round and flat and roughly the size of a quarter. It has alternating brown and whitish/green stripes radiating out from the mouth at the center. The thing is grooved with the brown thicker stripes being deeper and the thinner whitish/green stripes being raised higher. It has a foot that it attaches to the rock with. I fed it some mysis shrimp last night and it curled into a ball around the food. It seems mildly aggressive. The shrimp tried to steal it's food and it was having none of that. It would jerk and perhaps try to sting the shrimp every time the shrimp would try to get it's food. Also, since it chose that location on it's own, should I leave it alone or should I prod it to move again? Since it is obviously capable of relocating itself, would it move on it's own if the hammer coral was bothering it? I have posted a pic of the thing below. And this pic was taken right when the lights came on so the hammer coral hasn't yet expanded it's tentacles. It's tentacles do get very close to this thing when fully expanded.

This thing just went whizzing by on the glass.... it's just under 2" long. And creepy. Has a brown band/stripe going all the way down it's back. It went onto the sand then into some rock. Of course the pic was taken near the only spot I cannot reach to scrape so I had to take a FTS for you also:shades: however pay no mind to the giant aiptasia:bs:

I haven’t been able to locate a thread about these guys and I’m hoping they aren’t going to be a nuisance. They have been growing steadily for over a year. I currently don’t have any corals but they are coming soon. Is this something I should be worried about or are they OK? They are reddish brown, grow in clusters and retract when messed with like a feather duster does. Also in the morning they are very pale when the lights come on then by the evening they are full of color again.

**Also – It is sure hard to get good photos of the stuff in your tank….this is my first attempt at photographing things inside my tank. I’m sure there are posts here on how to get good photos so I will have to find them – but dang!! I only have a 50 gallon tank and first of all it’s really hard to get in there and second, I can only hold my breath for a few seconds…:smack:

So I've seen this a couple times at a LFS and I can't quite place it. The closest I've come to an ID is some type of majano, but I don't think that's it. Any ideas? They're maybe 1" across.

MILLIONS of them now!

Ok, maybe not millions but there are a whole ___load of them in my tank.

They appeared suddenly about one month ago, a few on the tank walls, then noticed them in huge numbers by the end of the week. The only thing that I noticed happening when they came into the tank that my emerald and hermit crabs all died suddenly. None of my corals nor my fish seem to be affected.

They are tiny and it took my awhile to figure out the macro lens on our new camera and finally got a good picture of the individual critters.

Actually on their own they are kinda cool, but they are definitely not cool in their groupings at the bottom of the tank and on the rocks. They give a red/brown covering that is not appealing..yuck.

My tank is a RSM and I have been set up for about 10 months now, and all my parameters (except for trouble keeping my salinity down) are good.

Anyone have any ideas? and then, what are my chances of ridding my tank of these unwelcomed denizens?

Can Anyone ID this Crab?

Hi there, I have only had my tank cycling for about 2 weeks. There is nothing in there except some snails and some LR, so today I decided to put a small bit of brine shrimp in the tank to see what would happen. Well a cute little crab poked out of one of my rocks! I was delighted until I read that they are usually a pest...
This guy has a dark purplish body (almost black) covered in tiny white spots, his two front claws are black with white tips (pretty thin) and his legs are banded with white yellow and black. Hes not hairy at all and hes super fast! Sorry the pics arent the greatest, he wouldnt come out far enough to get a good body shot but you can see his legs pretty clear. Hes upside down in both pictures.

There is nothing in there except some snails and some LR, so today I decided to put a small bit of brine shrimp in the tank to see what would happen. Well a cute little crab poked out of one of my rocks! I was delighted until I read that they are usually a pest...

http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad279/ntog/IMG_0262.jpg

I found this and can't find anyone that has ever seen anything like it before. it's red and orange, but i have also seen it in peach and grey. It's fleshy, like the inside of a grape. i found it at a peir, in VERY calm, VERY dirty water, close to the surface. Water temp is in the mid 70's.
it's definately not a spounge. it's soft , w/ no skeleton. it was very easy to scrape off. It seems to be doing ok now, I colected it on Friday and mounted it on Monday. The peice that I found was growing on a clump of seaweed. when I started trimming it worms started pouring out (of the seaweed) I'm pretty sure I got them all off. does anyone thow what this is?
