Strange Occillaris behaviour

Hi All,

One of my occellais is doing something I have not seen before. It is hovering in a little cave like over hang while the other one is swimming around as usual. It is the smaller of the 2 and I have never seen any aggression in the tank other than the YWG chasing them out of his area once in a while. They are in a BC 14 for over a year now. The water params were ok on the last check (will bring in my test kit and test tomorrow). Last WC was about 2 weeks ago. Food brings him out and he swims around and then back to his cave. It just started today. Maybe I am paranoid. :) Any ideas?

Zoas and Palys killing fish?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, if not, can a mod please redirect me?

I just started my reef tank (30g L w/ algea scrubber), just zoa and paly frags, a clam, and 2 cleaner shrimp. I can't seem to keep fish. I started w/ 4 dominos, to cycle, removed them after a while. added 10 zoa frags, 2 clown gobies, 1 maroon clown, and 2 cleaner shrimp. the clown went first, then the gobies, ane after the other. added 1 tunicate frag, 3 zoa frags and 1 paly frag, noticed that my clams foot is starting to detach from the plug it is mounted to. then added 2 yellow tanks and 2 kole tangs. after a few days, noticed bumps all over the tangs, removed them and later learned that the bumps were bruises.

My husband was reading "Hawaii's Sea Creatures" an invert book by John Hoover and found a paragraph about the zooxanthale (sp?) in the zoas and palys. It was stated that the zooxanthale could be released into the water if the animal was under stress or attack. Could this be the reason my fish are dying?

All the frags are recovering from shipping or being mounted or both. I've done 2 large water changes in the last month, the problem is ongoing.
is there anything that I can do?
Help is appreciated!

Mating Behavior

I have always said that if your fish are exhibiting mating behavior they are in the best of health. There are as many varied mating behaviors as there are fish. My fireclowns just get next to each other and shake while smacking each other with their tails, my bluestripped pipefish kind of swim parallel to each other and occasionally wrap around each other. Bangai cardinals just stay next to each other as do seahorses and the male of these gobies drag the female around in their mouth. This male has been holding (gingerly) the female by the area just before the tail for an hour. She is playing hard to get and is probably not ready to lay eggs. This pair has been laying eggs for a few years now.

Here is the female tending an earlier spawning

Some view on the nature of that possible transformation of science data and cloud this we comes via Michael Schatz. For the biology community, moving to MapReduce/Hadoop-style architecture would be a challenging undertaking. SOAP and XML made some serious inroads there. Schatz is working on adapting important bioinformatics tools to the cloud paradigm. He has discussed the issues on SourceForge where he documents some project work. Check out Haddop for Computational Biology.

Hair algae and Ms. Wages

Several months ago I was dosing Ms. Wages to maintain calcium and Ph levels. It worked great and was inexpensive. I rarely had to check my levels as they remained very stable and my coral growth was excellent. I did have some hair algae at that time but not a lot. When I ran out of Ms. Wages I switched to tropic-marin bio-calcium because local store only carried the lime seasonally. Since I switched all hair algae has disappeared and not come back at all. When I used the pickling lime I thought the algae was because of the large amount of food I feed daily but apparently that was not the case. Does anybody else here use pickling lime and if so what are your thoughts on hair algae. I would like to go back as it is cheap and maintains Ph as well. Sorry for long rant, thanks in advance for responses.

i have a problem, the other day most of my fish died out of the blue.
i lost a yellow tang, a clown tang, 3 chromis, 2 damsels, 3 cleaner wrasse and all my shrimp, 3 cleaners and 2 peppermint. i checked all the water perameters and everything is good there, cal was a bit low 7.9

my two clowns showed no signs of problems and none of the snails or crabs died, also the 2 urchins are still good. any ideas what may be the problems. tank has been set up for about 1.5yrs and
