PH question

My ph has been 8.2 during the day and 7.8 at night for the last year. Now I have switched to a 90 gallon glass tank ( acrylic tank not a good idea when you hace kids) and used crushed coral for the substrate. My ph is now 8.3 through the day and 8.2 in the middle of the night. I have yet to figure this out. Solid params are always good but why the big differance with this 90 over my other tanks? Any ideas? The only thing different is that I am using crushed coral instead of sand. My other params are:
Ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
calcium 420
 Thank you, Shaun

Ecosystem Aquarium Eco Calcium help

I would like to know how to use the Ecosystem Aquarium Eco Calcium part a,b,c,. Since I now have the clam in the tank. I read the directions and still am not quite sure, I understand it so can someone explain it to me in small terms if you know what I mean. In addition, I read something about this being called balling what does that mean. Thanks ahead of time for the help

how to change water with out getting salinity?

this always happens to me...I change 5 gallons out of 20 gallons about every month, and well every time the salinity goes sky high.

i do not use a power head in the premix bucket so some salt may be getting mixed once it runs through the skimmer. i do stir it though.

Smelly RO/DI water?

Alright... I just changed out all of the filters in my RO/DI unit... I've ran about 50-60 gallons through it so far...

The new output water stinks... Why? Both of my TDS meters read 0 on the fresh water... and the input water smells like normal tapwater before it goes into the unit... what gives!?

High pH

Hi all,
We started our 35 gallon reef aquarium Oct 1st (2009). We checked the pH when there was only RO water and spec gravity=1.021. The pH was 9.0. We have since added live rock, live sand, and cleanup crew. We have done water changes. We have added no suplements of any kind. We are running 2 power heads. We have never had the pH read below 8.9.
Can someone give us an idea of what is going on? Is it CO2 depletion? We now have corals introduced (as of this evening) and need to get a handle on this. We'd love some feedback.

Temp and Salinity

I used to mix my fresh SW in a 5g bucket using a small 100 gph power head and the temp was 79 degrees after a day or two circulating. I now use my old protein skimmer pump rated at 300 gph to aerate the water and more circulating power, now the temp has increased to 82 degrees.

Will this increase in temperature give me a false salinity reading(+/-) on my refractometer, it is a Automatic Temp Compensating model...

Thanks on advance...:)
