    Sump Design

This is a 30 gallon sump (3ft) without any equipment yet. Will this sump work for my 125 gallon tank? Concerns especially on the return area. Comments much appreciated!

Looks like an aquarium that was converted to a sump, that said I don't see anything wrong with it. The first chamber looks like it has a 4-inch filter sock and a sump that size usually has a 7-inch, just means you'll need to change socks more frequently. You could probably pick up an acrylic sock-holder that hangs on the side if you want a 7-inch.

I'd put a big skimmer in the middle section and the return area looks fine if it holds a larger enough pump for your needs. It has a couple weirs to remove bubbles and I don't think you need any additional mechanical filtration with the filter sock in the first chamber.

Looks good. Skimmer in first section if it will fit. Only concern would be the amount of gallons you backflow when the power goes out. The height of your return nozzle will also determine this. My 40b will fill my 20l sump to almost the top. I'm sure there's some kind of formula. I would see what other people are using as Sumps for 125g tanks. Hard to pass up for $20. The baffles probably cost about that much. Good luck.

    Slow your roll..
