Question Catalina Lighting

With recomendations of this product from a few ppl on here I'm pretty sure this is going to be the light i put on my 55g reef which is in the second week of cycling now. However I dont see that this fixture comes with a fan. Will I need to add one with the heat sync that puts heat out the top of the fixture?
I'm looking at the solar t5 48".

Thanks for the help

Re: Catalina Lighting

I had a Catalina T5 setup on my 75 before upgrading to the Aquactinics unit... it is an exceptional entry level light that will be great on a 55. No fans needed.

Re: Catalina Lighting

I've got the 24" 2x24W version and it's "Fan-less". Been going that way for almost a year now with now problems so I'd say you're good to go.

I can say that for the money this fixture is a LOT of "Bang for your Buck!". I think it's a quality light (or has been for me).

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Catalina Lighting

cool, thanks r2. I will probably be buying my fixture within the next two weeks, Im going to start a reef chronicle here within the next week too but its kinda boring now with just rock cycling in the tank lol. And as of now im still undecided on the skimmer Im going to buy. Either the aquac remora pro or the octopus bh100f?? Decisions, Decisions =)

Re: Catalina Lighting

Reefman, I have an Urchin Pro and noise is an issue. Its not to loud but constant and anoying spray water sound. Very good skimming on ther hand.
If you could listen to it before buying, please do it. Im not that desperate to spend another $200 in other skimmer but if I had oportunity will try Octopus.

I hope to post pics tonight. I want to be on lunch time to go home and watch that catalina working on my reef.

Re: Catalina Lighting

I have read about the noise issue with the aquac but have also seen some say that it subsides after the break in period. Idk thats the last thing i want tho is a tank thats too noisy to enjoy, by the way im talking about the hang on version as i dont run a sump

Re: Catalina Lighting

I cant find my camera to take pics, hope soon to be posting them.
Today I notice a lot of purple in light color. All coraline, sand and sorrunding walls were purple. And when my 10K went out at 7:00pm godness! My dinning is purple.
So, after checking out bulbs I have 2 10K and 2 420nm

I will check tomorrow if ant LFS has some 460nm bulbs to change them.

Question.
I know 460 and 420nm bulbs has UV radiation, does this are harm for eyes mainly or people's skin?

Greetings
