Question Chemi-pure

While I know this is technically a piece of equipment, I could not figure out where to make this post so here seemed as good as any. The other day a coworker of mine recommended Chemi-pure to me. Seeing as he has only been in the SW hobby for about a year I figured it is best to double check the suggestion. So what are your oppinions on this product?

Re: Chemi-pure

So it helps remove nitrates and phosphates the best I can tell. I may have to start using it unless someone advises other wise.

Re: Chemi-pure

I use Chemi pure elite in my phose reactor as a gfo. Works great keeps water clear and phosphate free. It does not remove nitrates though no matter what your hear.

Chemi-Pure is not a GFO (Granular Ferric Oxide), it is a GAC (Granular Activated Carbon)

Chemi-Pure Elite, however, does contain a Ferric Oxide... which broadens the use of the item.

While they have similar functions, they do not do the same thing.

Carbons WILL absorb nitrates, along with other chemical impurities which cause water to not appear crystal clear.

Ferric Oxides are used mainly, but aren't limited to Phosphate absorption.

GAC and similar media also adsorb (as opposed to absorb) dissolved organic compounds, which helps keep nitrates lower in the system. Also removes chemicals that may be the result of allelopathy (chemical warfare by cnidarians)

Re: Chemi-pure

Read my post. I use the Elite which as a gfo in it. I use that insted of just gfo cause it does more than just remove po4.
