can i skim more?

I have a coralife super skimmer 65. I have heard and read they are not very good. If I run it to skim "wet" will it be more effective. I'll loose more water but would it pull more junk?

i believe you can modify your venturi by replacing it with a euro reef venturi and itll work better period

Re: can i skim more?

I have the exact same skimmer and it works great, pulls out tons of nasty stuff and I have it on the lowest setting to skim. So in my experience it works.....for now. Just run it at the recommended level and you'll be fine after the break in period. I hear that people don't like them but have not heard a reason why?

Re: can i skim more?

Running a skimmer wet will pull more out yes. Keeping it clean is vital to proper usage with any skimmer.

They work, better than some lesser brands. But once you use a high end skimmer such as an ER, MRC, Deltec, H&S etc. you will see a huge difference in what they pull from your tank.
Everything from build quality to performance. You can't even completely disassemble the corallife to clean it out. Once you compare the pumps and venturi's the difference becomes apparent.
I personally feel the price difference between a corallife skimmer and ASM or Octopus skimmer is worth paying. Once you start getting into higher end skimmers the price difference may or may not be worth it for people and the performance increase is not as huge between say a high end Deltec and cheaper Euroreef or ASM skimmer.

Re: can i skim more?

$$ is the issue right now. But I'm also looking at how much the wasted water will cost. Even a gallon a day will ad up very quickly. Nothing in my tank appears to be suffering so I'm leaning toward letting it do the best it can until I have the cash to replace it. I got it free so I really can't complain.
