Anyone have experience with this chiller??

Aquatic Discoveries It is a Peltech brand, I have never seen this around, but a LFS carries them. They are supposed to be energy efficient. Any information would be greatly appreciated - It's getting REALLY hot and I'm tired of putting bags of ice in the sump!

That is a very interesting concept - a non-traditional chiller. There is no compressor or gas like the traditional chiller has which is more like a refrigerator. Instead, that unit uses an electric current to transfer heat.

Del Tec has a "cooler" which relies on evaporation - again expensive initial investment, but with the reduced power consumption, much cheaper in the long run... here's the DelTec site - seems to me the cooler works on gravity only a big consideration for set up Eco-Cooler - Installation Advice | The Aquarium Solution

This one uses about 1/4 of the electricity - a big consideration for overall cost.

Re: Anyone have experience with this chiller??

I have read great reviews on both from owners. The Peltech is very nice and my favorite.

Thanks Frankie - good to know.. I'm going to get their largest one. It's "rated" for a 300, I have a total of 450 so I may have to add a second smaller one...

Maybe not. Every tank is different. I would get the one, wait and see. I am jealous! I hear also they are super quiet. You just need to keep the fan fins clean. NBD.

Re: Anyone have experience with this chiller??

It will be set up in the garage where the sump/fuge is, so noise isn't much of a consideration, I really like the energy savings and the lack of chemical refridgerant. I wont have it for a few weeks but will post updates of how well it works... Hope the weather cools off - I've been rotating milk cartons full off ice into the sump to cool the water...

SJS: I guess you are using ice becuase fans over the top of the water causes to much evap? If not, you might want to do that as well, I did it until I got my chiller and it helped alot - and in AZ that is surprising. My system isn't near the size of yours.

I got fans too!!! The problem is the sump/fuge is in the garage which gets full afternoon sun. We insulated the ceiling which has helped a lot but not enough. And the ac in the house is not working so the house gets to high 80's if not 90 during these heat waves. Tank will get to 84 or a bit more if I dont do the ice thing... The ice only drops it by a very few degrees. I dont have enough freezer room to keep the temp at 78 where I really want it! And I've been limiting the lights too....
