Protein skimmer help.

I have a 38 gallon tank and the pump to my skimmer quit today so instead of buying a new pump i would like to just get another skimmer because the one i have isnt doing a good job.

What skimmer would be good for my tank and doesnt cost a whole lot?

Re: Protein skimmer help.

I'm running an ASM and have to say I don't know HOW you could improve BUT then again I'm spoiled. It was too easy to set up and it works like a CHAMP!

On the FLIP side.. I have heard nothing but good things about the "Terminator" skimmer.

Re: Protein skimmer help.

Not sure if you have a sump or not.
With a sump I would go with an ASM-G1.
Without a sump I would go with an Aqua C Remora.
Both work great once they break in and you set them how you want them. Just empty the collection cup frequently and clean the whole thing once a year or so and you will get lots of work out of them.

Re: Protein skimmer help.

My choices would be for a sump Terminator, ASM - sumpless typhoon, remora

Re: Protein skimmer help.

I would look into Octopus skimmers over ASM, octopus uses better materials and are cheaper. A couple years ago ASM was great, but they raised their prices and the materials they use to construct their skimmers are inferior to the cell cast acrylic that is used by octopus.

So, do you need the skimmer to be run external, HOB or in-sump?
