Skimmer height clearance question

Hi all, I am in the process of rebuilding my sump. I have a 90 gallon tank with a current aqua pro systems wet/dry filter. The reason Im rebuilding is the nitrates and phosphates in my tank are on the high side and I can't seem to get them down. They are still hi even after removing the bio balls and changing the filter pad every week. My thinking is with the skimmer and the fuge I should be able to get the levels down.

I'm going to get a 20 long aquarium and fit it with baffles to make a Skimmer -> fuge -> return style sump. I've been looking at the ASM G1 and G1-x. but here is my question. The G1 has a height of ~19 inches and the x has a height of ~21 inches. I have about 24 inches total room inside the stand. How much clearance do I need to remove the collection cap? If I only need a half inch or so Ill get the G1-x but if I need a couple inches or better I'll have to get the G1 or even a smaller skimmer. If anyone can let me know how much clearance Ill need that would be excellent!

Also if anyone has any suggestions about the current nitrate levels I'd love to hear them. Itll be 2-3 weeks still before I can get all the materials and construct the new sump.

Thanks!

Re: Skimmer height clearance question

LOL
Very little room is needed to remove the collection cup. I have about an inch in my stand for the 125. The thing I didn't think about when I set mine up is the need to occasionally take the skimmer body out for a good cleaning. The pump is not bad, but in order to take the skimmer body out I have to take the sump appart. Now I do not have to do this very often so it is not that big of a deal but I figured I would mention it.
Just as an FYI I am running a G1-x on a 90 and love it. Nice smelley skimmate.

Re: Skimmer height clearance question

Thanks for the info guys! I was also concerned about taking the skimmer out. Ill make sure when i engineer the sump I leave enough room in the skimmer area to tip it on its side and remove it. G1-x it is!
